Pixelpost

Authentic Photoblog Flavour

Future-Post April 2

Posted by jaywilliams | 93 Comments

You may have noticed that there hasn’t been much activity on the Pixelpost development front, but looks can be deceiving. Behind the scenes we’ve been working on some brand new exciting code, which will eventually become Pixelpost 2.0.

With this version, our goal is to make it faster, simpler, and easier to use than our previous versions. And we’re doing that by removing all non-essential elements, and making them optional plugins. And that’s where you come in, after all, we’re doing all this work for all of you!

Here is the question: What are the most important things you’d need Pixelpost to have built-in, and what things would you like to see as optional plugins?

Pixelpost 1.7.1 – Security Patch July 27

Posted by jaywilliams | 5 Comments

With news reports of bank websites being compromised, and personal information being stolen, it’s hard not to forget about the would be hackers and their quest to take over the world. (Ok, maybe not that last bit)

Well, it has come to our attention that on a Windows based web server with the PHP setting “register_globals” enabled, a hacker could use Pixelpost maliciously to read files located on the server.

If you are running Pixelpost v1.7.1, and are on a Windows server, please download the security patch below to play it safe. (It won’t hurt you if you’re on a Linux box either)

If you are running a version of Pixelpost older than 1.7.1, we recommend you upgrade to the latest version, which is available on our home page, as it already includes this patch. That way your photoblog will be safe and sound.

Do the words, “One Click Install” and “Automatic Update” sound good to you? Well if your web server runs on Debian Linux, both of these can be a reality, thanks to the hard work of Xavier Lüthi!

Installing Pixelpost can now be as simple as typing this single command: sudo apt-get install pixelpost

It doesn’t get much better than that!

You can find out more about Xavier, and his Pixelpost endeavors over at his blog: http://www.luthi.eu/blog/

Posted by Dennis | 1 Comment

Today, the Defensio addon has been updated to version 1.3.1.

This release fixes a few problems users were experiencing. Namely, if a comment is flagged as spam, Pixelpost will no longer send you a comment notification e-mail. This should help keep your inbox much cleaner. Also, several users reported an issue with Defensio not being able to include it’s function libraries. This too has been fixed.

So if you are a Defensio user, grab the new version from the Extend section today!

You know what’s best about open source applications such as Pixelpost?
Everyone has the ability to look at our code and make sure that everything is secure.

So it’s highly recommend that everyone upgrade as soon as possible to prevent any possible security breaches.

And if you’re a security conscious person, you may want to change your password just to play it safe.

The latest version can be downloaded here:
