Developer Description

As much as I love Pixelpost, I found that one thing was lacking: a rock solid theme made with web development best practices in mind. I found some decent ones but nothing I really liked enough to put on my own site. Therefore I decided to roll my own and then make it available for all Pixelpost users to use.

Demos:

Dark Matter microsite: darkmatter-template.com.

Features

  • A (hopefully) clean and classy layout
  • built in AJAX thumbnail browser
  • Excellent browser support
  • Valid XHTML 1.0 Strict output
  • Accessible
  • Easy to translate
  • Completely unobtrusive YUI powered Javascript behavioral layer
  • Fully functional without Javascript
  • Strict separation between markup, style and javascript

Make sure you read README.txt first before attempting to install.

Extra: Make sure you have exactly FIVE thumbnails in your photo stream of exactly 100 pixels wide. The theme is 'tight' when it comes to this. Also: Images larger than 800px wide are not tested nor supported with this theme. It will most likely break the pages!

License: Free for non-commercial use. For commercial use a license for Dark Matter Pro is required.

If you like this template, consider upgrading to Dark Matter Pro which adds tons of amazing features including a light version, AJAX commenting, an impressive amount of configuration options and much more!

I've used Dark Matter Pro on my site - easy to install, professional looking with the ability to strip out the bits you don't need. I wanted a site that was easy to maintain and looked less like a blog and more like a normal portfolio site - so I used Dark Matter Pro and also incorporated a Slideshow Pro element. Also, think the pictures are enhanced by the tight framing the format gives. Ian
