I am getting 3 or 400 hundred spam comments per day. I do not know how to disable the comments. I have a problem upgrading to v1.7.1 so I do not have good anti spam protection.

I posted something a couple of days ago and got no response.

Where / how do I disable comments?

Can one of the pixelpost moderators please give me some help!!!

Thank you.

It amazes me there isn't some simple way to disable comments in this otherwise excellent web app. I will probably end up paying a programmer friend to implement reCAPTCHA on my blog to combat this. I have just enabled a key for Akismet, but I don't hold out any great hope this will be a panacea.

99% of my spam is caught. I'm just using Akismet and some rules for what gets sent to moderation.

I thought someone made an addon to go back and change the comment status on all past images at one point. It's also not that hard to do if you can run a sql query to your database to change all images to not accept comments.

There is actually a way. Ever since Pixelpost 1.6 you can set the comments to moderation, publish immediately or disable them all for each image. You can even set a default action but this will not touch previous images. This has been covered numerous times in the forum and in the documentation, as can be seen here: http://www.pixelpost.org/docs/GettingStarted/Comment_Settings

However, if you really want to disable all comments that can be easily done really. All you have to do is execute some SQL to set a flag for each image.

Or another solution: enable TOKEN support from your adminpanel and forget the instruction to place the <TOKEN> tag in the form. This will block most, if not all comments.

Or try http://BL, Defensio, or Akismet, or CAPTCHA addons, which can all be found at the Extend section of the Pixelpost website.

There you have it: 7 solutions in stopping SPAM. And I haven't even had begun to name the JS solutions which can also be found on this forum.

Kevin is right, there is an addon for it. You know what: I found it through the excellent search we have on this forum. Try this addon (courtesy of e300): http://photoblog.shrinkpictures.com/addons/admin_Lock_old_comments_v01a.zip

And we really have to stop posting threads saying Pixelpost does a horrible job in stopping comment spam. For those of you who still think this is the case: enjoy the read: http://www.schonhose.nl/2009/01/10/spam-protection-in-pixelpost/
