I apologize in advance for this stupid question.
I searched this site and could not find anything explaining what to do when EXIF data isn't present.
I am running PS CS and do a "save as" of my file. I then upload it and when I get to my site, nothing.
the site is: http://monochromecity.com
I have the tags in place so it's not that. If I need to include any more info, please let me know.
I just moved to PP for this project and I love it! Now if I can only get the EXIF to work.
PS - the images are only there for testing purposes, so please don't comment. =)

i believe you can test that your camera is storing exif data correctly into your images by opening them in http://www.irfanview.com/ and checking for the exif data.
there should be no other reason for this problem... unless exifer does not support your camera model but I doubt this (if your camera produces exif 2.1)

Hi Joe[y]:
This is what I get using that app:
File: - \CRW_2511.jpg
Orientation - Top left
XResolution - 240
YResolution - 240
ResolutionUnit - Inch
Software - Adobe Photoshop CS Windows
DateTime - 2005:06:07 14:45:59
ExifOffset - 164
ColorSpace - Uncalibrated
ExifImageWidth - 624
ExifImageHeight - 416
does this mean PS ate the info? I did a "save as" after opening it in PS.

what camera do you use? are you sure it supports exif tags like aperture etc?

I have a raw plugin in PS that lets me see the EXIF info and when i work on the file, i can goto file properties and under camera data 2, see everything there.

then it's not that - -- I can't explain it.
take the most recent photo from photos.jlspurling.com (as i know that will have exif) . . . upload it and see if exif displays... that way we can rule pixelpost out as being the problem.

That wa sa huge help. So it's not PP and it's not likely the camera. That leaves PS CS. So I have to figure out why a save as doesn't preserve the data.

are you saving 'as a copy' when you 'save as' in PS?

Yes sir.
You must use Save as (under windows CTRL+SHIFT+S) option to store your photo with EXIF data.
You can check if all is ok in File->File info->Advanced->EXIF.

Hi GeoS,
As indicated in the first entry of this thread, I am doing just that.
When I go into the file - file info, it gives me the EXIF information for the .jpg. However, when I check the file properties in any other tool, I get Photoshop data in the EXIF fields.

try saving in image ready....
i saw this here: http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00A1cg
just see if that helps. then we really know that CS is the problem.

Joe[y],
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
That absolutely did the trick!
And by the way, thank you. =)
Now, the site is saying the flash was fired when the EXIF says it was not.
I'll look into that, but at least it's pulling the data!

Do you, or anyone for that matter, know of any free exif editors? for some reason the EXIF info re: the flash is not coming over.
some cameras.... especially the nikon d70... store exif data in odd places which can get confusing for programs. search google... i'm sure you can find something - possibly a plugin for PS as you can view exif in PS.

not an editor but you can try to transfer exif info from NEF to JPEG using CPEXIF (www.clex.sk/cpexif/). it works fine with the d70 as far as i can tell.

Can I jump in on this.
I am having the same problem. I save all of my images as a 'Save as' in Photoshop CS2
Pixelpost seems to bring the data in from some pictures and not others. The ones that it doesn't do have the exif data embedded because when I check in file info the exif data is there.
Any thoughts or help please.
thanks John

if photoshop does not understand how exif data is stored in a file then it simply wipes it (rather than ignores it as it should) - it's a problem with photoshop. try imageready - see if that makes a difference in the meantime. until a solution becomes common with photoshop.

I will try Image ready and report back - I just find it strange though how some photos are fine and others aren't even though they have been saved in exactly the same way with the same camera.

Okay
I open the file in Image Ready and check file info and the exif Data is still intact.
I have now ticked the boxes which say add exif data and tried again. It still doesn't work for me at all.
So I reckon it is really strange. I will be posting a fresh image tonight and see what happens with that. I am actually supecting that the ones that are not right are from a time when I wrote the Jpegs with CS. I am now on CS2 and I think they are the ones that seem okay straight out of photoshop.
thanks

I've had the same problem editing my RAW files with CS.
It would never save EXIF.
CS2 doesn't have that issue.
