I've reinstalled pixelpost on Dreamhost and can't get the image upload to work properly. I found the FAQ regarding php security, and have disabled the special security feature that was referenced, however still no luck. This is the message:

Warning: imagejpeg(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/.javier/alexknapp/armchairtourist.net/includes/functions.php on line 92

Warning: chmod(): No such file or directory in /home/.javier/alexknapp/armchairtourist.net/includes/functions.php on line 94

Here is my Info Page - It looks like everything is in good shape...

Any Ideas?

What is the significance of the 'guessed image path'? How can I configure it to match the folder I have set up, or do I need to change my folder name to match the 'guessed path'?

Dreamhost's support page makes it pretty clear that they cannot help with third party software, and I am not expert enough to know exactly what could be the problem.

Do you have any ideas what could be causing this? Where should I be looking for a solution?

Alex,

1) when you install PP, you create a folder "images" and give rights to that folder
2) the path to that folder is the "guessed imagepath"
3) if you change that path in ADMIN/GENERAL INFO, then these two sets will not fit

If you did not change that path and there is still that difference, then some serverconfiguration is doing that and it is a problem of the hoster, a case for the support

as this is not 3rd party software but firstparty-server-configuration

PP relies on the UNIX-folder/directory-structure which is created when installing and which is absolutely standard with APACHE / UNIX, you can even say it is not standard, it's the way it is designed to and how it should work

if that folder-structure is disturbed, the script will not work. And that means that the hoster is doing something that disturbs normal unix conventions

so it is their topic

It is known that PP has a lot of problems when the hoster is DREAMHOST, sometimes it is a question of security (they have this strange blocking), sometimes it is their directory-structure-reglement

I would say, if a hoster does not allow me very normal and common things than there are other hosters who will do a good job for me.
I on my side have websites at www.siteground.com for very good money and I am a free person there

as well as we made very good experiences and cooperate with http://www.eleven2.com

good luck, Connie

Unfortunately I am signed on with DH for a little less than a year, so I need to find a solution that works with PP or look for another photoblog solution.

I am going to try reinstalling PP, without DH's security features, and see what that gives...

Alex,

unfortunately (but naturally) all blog software needs to write data, store files etc.

all photoblogs offer upload-functions for the respective image
all these uploaded files must be copied from a "temp" to the images-file

that's the same process for all blogs
if your hoster does not allow PP to do that, I doubt he will allow that for other software...

I once decided, even that I had paid for a year, to leave a hoster and move to a better one. That was worth the money, because I did not want to cripple my ambitious because of a bitchy hoster..

dreamhost doesnt like to help, ever, you pick up the phone, or email, get in touch with support, you tell them that its vital that they help you figure the solution out or you want to talk to the manager and close your account. They will listen, they got on their knees when I called asking to close my account. Bigger deal than cancelling an AOL account,...sheesh

now, there are other dreamhost users out there who use pixelpost, so finding them might be a good idea
