Okay.. very new to photo blogging, hosting, etc - I need some clarity and understanding.
Pixelpost is not an image or blog hosting website, correct? It is simply a program to download and a way to manage a photo blog. (so far so good?)
OKay so what do I need in addition to Pixelpost and some digital photos to start a photoblog? A site to host the blog and my photos?
If so - are there any recommended sites where one can host a blog that are known to work well with Pixelpost? Are any free or is there a fee with every one?
Final question this time around - I've heard that with some hosting sites you can register a domain or URL but in reality, THEY own and maintain the URL and even if you change hosting sites you can't take your domain with you. True?
Does any of this make sense? I guess I'm looking for a 1,2,3... steps in setting this up from the start. THanks for help from a newbie!!

http://www.eleven2.com
read this about eleven2
http://www.pixelpost.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1176
You can purchase domain names through eleven2 as well, and if you switch hosting down the road they will change the dns info for it for you, or relase it. But, I've been with e2 for a good while, I wouldnt see any reason to change. And purchasing your domain through them is the fastest way to get setup. Places like http://www.godaddy.com can take anywehre from 3-48 hours to point to domain at your hosting account.
Once you have the hosting and domain setup, its a step by step installation of the pixelpost application

well, if you register a domain, some hosters are tricky, because to register a domain means that there are entries in the registration for
owner of domain
technical admin
....
etc.
If the hoster does not register all entries in your name (beside technical admin) it could happen that the domain is registered to him and not to you
but don't care too much, there are millions of domains out now and not all hosters are that bad!
but we can suggest http://www.eleven2.com, there you will get PixelPost installed for you and a good price
another hoster which I can recommend is http://www.siteground.com/index.htm?referrerid= 11181
they will assist you in installing the script as well as they have very good service and good prices.
Good luck!

wow. I wanted to reply and blinking8s did it before me.
BTW, I don't recommend free hosting services at all. They are free but dont trust them. I'm not using e2 but it's the easiest way to have pixelpost from scratch. Otherwise, you should configure and setup pixelpost yourself. But remember Pixelpost is one of the easiest content management programs to setup. (much easier than MT or even WordPress).
good luck.

they dont install it for you, but its a pretty cake installation and pixelpost is well tested with their systems, e2 support will help you with the account setup and running the control panel, they offer ticket/phone/email/aim support and it shouldnt be a problem, but they dont officially condone the software so the actual installation is up to you.
I might get with e2 next week and see about writing up a pixelpost installation with e2 servers, word for word so its totally foolproof, screenshots and all.
but later down the road i hope we can get pixelpost on their fantastico system on the e2 servers, be a really cool feature...one click foolproof installs.
if you decide to go with e2, and need help with the installation, just shout on the forum if you have trouble

I'm hosted with TextDrive (http://www.textdrive.com), and they have given me absolutely excellent service. Nothing against E2 at all, just another suggestion to look at if you want.
