View Full Version : why does simple template revert to ugly html

I am noticing that with the simple template it will occasionally revert to ugly jane plain HTML stuff. If I click on "dark" it goes back to normal form. I am using IE. My friend told me over the phone he noticed the same thing on this computer. What's up with the inconsistency? Can it be fixed?

the style switcher is using javascript, but the same style switcher used by oh so many sites
I cannot tell you a solution though, I know ive tested the same switcher and discussed it with many developers and testing seemed fine.
when you say plain html, you mean unrendered pure text?

right, big ol plain text, picture not centered, pure white background. but if you hit the style switcher to dark, it goes back to java format. it's weird. and doesn't happen all the time.
on another note, is there a way to get to thumbs on pixelpost-dark, but Im just too blind to see it?

just my personal 5 cents:
don't use that feature of the template. Take it off.
sorry. I spent so much time already fixing valid things, designs, code, css to have it working with IE, a browser which is known for so many bugs for years, that I personally don't want to loose too much time on fixing IE stupidities or faults or leaks or weaknesses
if there are other people who want to do that, ok
my suggestion, as I am just a user of this template as well in some test-installations:
if you know that IE produces something buggy and you know that it's a fault of IE and you understand that IE will not be bugfixed on the long way, and you think that you have many users with that browser
just don't use that special template or CSS attribute at your site
I personally try to avoid things like that because I am so tired of that.
Yesterday again I spent hours trying to fix a faulty float-error in CSS which is a bug by IE, this is wasting my lifetime, and just because I made a valid design with valid code for a friend and now that...

when we implemented the styleswitcher we simply assumed it would work well in all browsers as it was standards compliant. (as alistapart proved!) there was a brief test with IE which proved to work fine but now we know that some versions of IE do seem to have problems.
i will try and get in touch with the coder from alistapart.com

validation means nothing...its a tern for properly written code, it doesnt mean its going to work in IE by any means
We decided to use the best style switcher possible, I put it through heavy testing on different forums as well as asking users from here if it worked for them, no complaints untill lately. It's time just came I guess...we'll look into it more...

I have noticed this only happens when I put an entry in the "Image Description/ Text" box when uploading new images.
If I just upload the image, and enter the title in "Image Title" it all works fine...
I use both FF and IE, but cannot remember if I have experienced the problem in both.

weird! I'll look into it over the weekend, but I have a feeling this issue is going to be a long term solution, I cant seem to recreate the break in the css/to plain text at all.

I believe I've seen the exact same problem happening. It looks like IE is sometimes totally "ignoring" the css code. This seemed to happen randomly, but then I figured it out that when I'm using quotation marks (" ") in my picture description the IE is just flipping out. This seems to happen at least with the simple template and with a template of my own which is based on the simple template. I took out the template switcher from mine (I think), but it didn't help. I guess I just have to write the descriptions without using any quotation marks. Ever. :(
Oh, and I've never seen the problem in Firefox.

Im looking into it, using a php switcher isnt an option for pp without a silid hack written out for you to use, but the code is fine from what i know.
Ill keep researching and asking questions elsewhere though, sorry for your issues
