Hi All,

I am new new new to Pixelpost, so I appreciate your help. I'm running the latest version of Pixelpost and everything seems to be working fine, except I can't switch Templates or access Add-ons from the admin utility. I know the templates and Add-ons are there; I uploaded everything to my server via FTP. But if I try to switch templates, the only option is pixelpost-light, and the Add-ons page is just blank.

All my pixelpost files are in the root folder to my site (http://www.tmcdaily.com), so the template directory looks like /tmcdaily/templates and contains
/light_white
/pixelpost-dark
/pixelpost-light
/pixelpost-light-archivepaged
/simple
/utf-rtl

The Addons directory is
/tmcdaily/addons and holds
/advanced_stat.php
/anti_spam.php
/calendar.php
/copy_folder.php
/current_datetime.php
/paged_archive.php

Any idea what's up? I've tried changing templates and accessing addons from both Mac and PC environments . . . .

Thanx in advance.

when you say that your addons (and templates) are in folders such as /tmcdaily/addons does this mean they reside in a different folder to index.php ? ie, your index.php is in the root and your templates and addons are in a directory called /tmcdaily/ ? or did i misunderstand that?

can you also please copy and paste your 'general info' page from your admin please.

also. you are NOT using our most recent release. you seem to have 1.4.1 installed. are you not running 1.4.2 ?

EDIT : correction. your template is just old.

everything's in the root, i.e. the 'templates' folder and the 'addons' folder are in the same directory as index.php.

here's my general info page:

Hmmmm . . . . . I uploaded the SUGAR template (which was added on 7/21/05 to the templates area) to my root folder . . . . still can't switch templates from my admin page. Also, I still can't figure how to access INSTALLED ADDONS.

I appreciate your trying to help me with this issue . . . . maybe I just have to manually edit the HTML?

it's possibly due to your mySQL version. but i'm a bit of a layman with pixelpost sql commands so i'll see if i can divert one of the other's attention this way.

Try to change extension of advanced_stat.php addon to i.e. .php_bak. I think that it is not standard addon and I dont know its code.

If it help it will mean that this addon is buggy.

If it doesnt help it means that you must try to rename other addons till it will work.

If it doesnt help write back here and we will try to help in other way.

Thanx GeoS,

I tried renaming to advanced_stat.php_bak without success. Then tried renaming the other addons, still without luck. Man, this is frustrating! I think I'll try getting rid of everything, and doing a fresh install of 1.4.2 . . . .

Well, I just don't know what's up. I deleted all PixelPost files and installed a fresh new version on my site. I killed my existing mySQL database and created a new one. Now I'm having the exact same problems, except I can only access the SIMPLE template (before I could only access pixelpost-light) and still can't access the ADDONS.

Excuse my ignorance, but is it relevant that my database isn't at 'localhost' but is at a secureserver.net? I changed that line in the pixelpost.php file as instructed, but maybe it needs to be noted elsewhere? I'm totally guessing, btw.

Here's my site http://www.tmcdaily.com and here's the General Info from my Admin page:

yes. it seems the problem is with sql so the most likely problem is that you are using a remote database. you seem ot have a reasonable setup on your local server , is there no way your host can organise a database for you?

the only reason i can think is that SECUREserver.net has some strict permissions in place. Pixelpost relies on copying of files and uploading blah blah blah which some hosts may be wary about (if they are used abusively)

have a little chatter with those people and find out if they put soem permission restrictions in place.

thanx Joe[y]. i'll get on the horn with godaddy.com and see what's up . . . . in case i have to switch hosting accounts . . . . pixelpost won't run on linux, right?

pixelpost won't run on linux, right?

where did you hear that? i run apache on a unix server which is the most common setup - but pixelpost has only ever had any troubles with windows servers and we have solutions for that.

']where did you hear that?

OH! OH! That's my ignorance right there . . . . this is from the install read me

"These are the requirements for PixelPost:
- sufficient Webspace: not for PixelPost (around 400 KB), but for your images ;=)

- Apache Webserver or Windows IIS
- . . . "

Yeah . . . . I didn't know Apache Webserver meant (or somehow goes with) Linux Webserver . . . I thought . . . well, never mind what I thought. Suffice it to say I'm learning a lot from y'all :-D

I'll make the switch sometime this weekend and let y'all know what's up. Thanx again for your guidance.

ok. well i learn plenty from users... i'm fairly dumb when it comes to servers myself.

1) when you see blank pages, that's because there is a script error.
2) the only option you have for templates is pixelpost-light on 1.4.1 install and simple in 1.4.2 install. This means that the templates directory is empty or not accessable. The first option is filled from DB and the rest would came from directory content.
Check the permission on you host.
3) I think that's the problem, since you don't have access to directories in listing addon inside admin >> addons. This part of code also looks into the directory and lists the content (addons inside!)

I've tested PP on IIS and Abyss servers on windows XP and everything is ok.

Okay, I followed Joe[y]'s suggestions re: local mySQL servers versus remote mySQL servers. I was hosting with godaddy, and they just couldn't give me a cheap Linux or Windows IIS server plan that allowed for local database hosting . . . soooo . . . I went ahead and switched to eleven2 (and their nice pixelpost discount) and am now running just fine on their CX hosting plan/linux server.

My site's not live yet, but is on the way. Thanx so much for everybody's input.

So what was the resolution to this issue? I am having the same problem. I do not see any add-on files through admin and I have ftped all of them to my site. I am hosting through godaddy.com, as well. Do I need to change hosts? What should look for in a new host?
