I'm a beginner photographer... and I am wondering what you all think about this photo & the use of Photoshop for manipulating photos.

Is it a good practice to manipulate photos, or to just post them "raw" right off the camera?

Thanks in advance!

The pic is neat. I like the texture and tone of the hand. I like the concept. i think it's a little dark overall. It makes me think of a child's nightmare. I'd like to see the image overall brighter.

As far as the whole photoshop vs non-photoshop discussion... do what suits you. If you learn to take the kind of pictures that you want/like, the less work you might have to do in photoshop. If someone complains... tough. You can also just call yourself a "digital artist" vs. a "photographer."

If these images are for you personally... you can do whatever you want.
If these images are for a client... you do whatever they want.
It's all melting into a one fancy thing called "Art."

A lot of people will note some of the post production things done to their images. That way, no one can get mad at you because they thought it was an unretouched photo.. ;-)

welll... there's my 2 cents.

Thanks for the ideas!

I'll keep in mind about the digital artist bit.

I also like the idea bout letting people know that an image was post processed.

Thanks again!

I think it's a work of art.
