Viewing within categories

Is it possible to allow users to select a category and then let them browse through that category on the main page (image_template.html)? In other words, once a category has been selected, clicking the image would take them to the previous item within that category?

Has anyone implemented something like this in pixelpost? I came across something like this at minimalgallery.net (see the demo) but while it is nice, it lacks many of the other features that makes pixelpost so great.

I'd appreciate any information.

I just did an addon for selecting categories via thumbnails, the thread is in the addons section. Check it out, i could easily convinced to sculpt a full-on categories mod if there's interest.

I am looking for this feature/addon for a long time, too.
It would be great, if people could browse the categories with the big images.
I personally think it is annoying if you can't not.
For example if I want to know how chromasia improves his black&white shots or if I am only interrested in the nightshots of orbit1, it would be very, very useful to browse in this way...
Yes, it's a little bit like a feature of a gallery,
but I don't think, it's against the rules of a photoblog.

I tried to write an addon by myself, but, of course, I failed.

Raminia started something called Portfolio (you can use the forum search) and I always hoped he will continue this work.

So, please, you talented guys out there, coul you help?

i've been thinking about this, and it seems very interesting. i'd be willing to develop something along these lines.
post an addon request with as many details as you can think of in the addon section of the forum, if there's enough genuine interest i'll code this, no problem.

I saw a picture which is very beautiful inside this cat, I click it
I see the picture with the 'large-size', I see that I'm on the picture n°2/12, now I know where am I inside the category

John, no problem.
i can add functionality so that when you click an image, to goes to the next/previous image in the same category, i can also add the "this image is number XX of XX in the XX category" text. both using tags.
once someone posts an addon request in the addons forum, you can all add your requirements, then i'll make the addon.

Thanks for all the input and support. I guess I'm not the only one who would like this feature :-)

I was going to say that I could post an add-on request, but since I am new to this and since other people had clearly put a lot of thought into the features they would really like in the way the add-on functions, that it might be better if someone else takes the lead in this.

I would love to see this feature.

Just because it's a blog software vs gallery doesn't mean there can't be browsable categories that are sorted by date.

It will only help users quickly browse images faster.

Just read the above thread does anyone know how this addon by tinyblob is progressing it sounds like exactly what I am looking for.

Hopefull of it being finished for next week!!?
