i just learned how to digitally cross process pictures (which i guess is kind of an oxymoron since there really is no processing at all), and i wanted to post it here for critique. what do you think? i'm wondering if maybe i should crop it closer to the people since it's not all that interesting of a background... thoughts?

Cross process: To develop a film in the wrong process (eg: neg.(C41) film in trannie(E6) chemicals) to obtain a sometimes bizarre colour or contrast effect.
pardon me but the picture looks pretty normal to me, where's the bizarre color or contrast?

well the original is here: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v32/thesefoolishthings/birthday/point.jpg
i was mostly inspired by this guy (http://greyscalegorilla.com/index.php?x=browse&category=8). it's not so much "bizarre" colour and contrast as just abnormal. enhanced, i guess.

joey, i am *dying* to do real cross processing, i just haven't got the film yet. i think i'm going to order a roll from b&h... what do you recommend? i've heard kodak e100g is good. i really want to wait till i get my holga though.

i'm no expert on what is best for it. i'm sure every film has different effects - so i suppose it's all hit and miss. a holga is on my wishlist this christmas too! :)

Even though i never use it, i love my Holga for it's technical simplicity. When you get it, take the back off and hit the shutter release a couple of times, it's fun to watch!
Also the "focus ring" is fantastic... four focus options:
* Persons face.
* Person.
* People.
* Mountain.

with Holga you can do great "cross processing"
because you just forget to wind the film ;=)
here is my greatest result ever:

@tinyblob:
you misunderstood something:
people is wrong, you must read it collective ;=)
as the Holga was meant to be the camera for the masses (when it was ready for market, the film format was not uptodate any more and everybody moved to 24x36-format...)

Connie, that's a double exposure. The holga is great for multiple exposures :)
Cross processing is when you use the wrong "chemicals".
So if you're using negative film, you process with positive chemicals, and vice-versa. You get really contrasty colours this way.

great, I learn and learn! So I stick to multi-exposing.. that is easier for me ;=)
