View Full Version : Changing templates in the pull-down menu?
Hello Everyone,
This is my first post. I have PixelPost up and running on my site. Everything seems to be working so far except,
In the admin menu under Options/Template/Switch Template(DropDownMenu), I cannot select anything other than the "Simple" template. I have doubled checked to make sure that the other template folders are in my template directory (Pixelpost-dark, Pixelpost-light), and they are indeed there. Any help here is greatly appreciated. I have done some minor searching in forums, but not with much luck. Thanks!
Chris
Okay,
I have posted my first dumb question without researching more. Sorry!
I guess that I have figured out the the "pixelpost-light" & "pixelpost-dark" work with the "Simple" template?

this is strange and I never ran into that
can you give us URL of your site?
tell us the general info which you find at admin/general info, please
Connie,
Thanks for the response. I might have answered my on question.
In the templates folder, is the pixelpost-light and pixelpost-dark folder part of the "Simple" layout template?
I see that from my website that I can change from light to dark on the menu at the bottom which leads me to believe that these folders work with the basic or "Simple" template.
Here is a link to my site:
shopeology.com
This is from the Admin/General Info screen:
PHP-version 4.3.11 (Pixelpost's min requirement: PHP version 4.3.0)
MySQL version 4.0.24-max-log (Pixelpost's min requirement: MySQL 3.23.58)
GD-lib bundled (2.0.28 compatible) with JPEG support
Server software Microsoft-IIS/6.0
EXIF Pixelpost is using exifer v1.5 for EXIF information.

no.. pixelpost-light and pixelpost-dark are seperate templates.
the simple template has light and dark variants, but they're held in the css file relating to the simple template.

^ currently using pixelpost-light
Thanks,
I must have a problem with mine. I am not able to pull down and select anything other than the "Simple" template. I cannot even see the pixelpost-light/dark templates. I have checked to make sure that the pixelpost-light/dark folders are in the templates folder and they are. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!~

well, I checked your website, I went to http://shopeology.com/templates/pixelpost-dark/image_template.html and it is there
so I cannot believe that you cannot select this template
please, open admin page / options in the browser and do a screenshot and give us a link to the screenshot
or you might send me your username + password by private mail to connie@pixelpost.org and I will check it
I promise not to destroy anything!
which browser are you using?
Connie,
You should have email. Thanks for looking into this. I am using Firefox for the browser.

Chris,
it is not only the templates, which are not read, also the language files are not read by the script
when PP is installed, it will run with english language-file and simple-template
all other directory names in the template-folder are read by our script and written into the select-box
all other language-files in the language-folder are read by our script and written into the select-box
I checked, the language-files are there and the template-folders are there as well
but your website runs with Microsoft IIS-Server
so there might be a problem that a script has no right to read the folders or the names of files
so you must talk with your hoster and find out about the configuration to allow the script
admin/index.php
to read the content of the folder /templates and the content of the folder /language
good luck
please change your password now!
PS: I also saw that you have a category with no name
do you really want that? Or maybe you delete it...
good luck!

Did you check to make sure the language and template folders/contents hadn't been CHMOD'ed to something silly?
Connie,
Thanks for looking into this. I will check with my hosting company. I am just starting to build the site, so I did not know about the category thing.
Chris
Okay,
I have fixed this problem by having my host change my server from MS server to a linux server. They said that I did not have any PHP support with the MS server, thus the reason for the templates not showing correctly in the admin section. Thanks to all for the help!

After uploading files, the first step of the Pixelpost install is to run admin/install.php, if you don't have PHP support then that stage must've gone wrong.
Not only that, but the admin page requires PHP to let you log in.. and you must have been logged in to get to the templates page!
Curiouser and curiouser.

did you set index.php files to be the index ?
The install went fine the first time, with MS server. Maybe I did have PHP support? See a couple of post back when Connie was helping me with this problem. I know that the MS server setup that I had would not support CHMODing...

in windows server admin should set the permission to read write and execute or simply the full right for everyone on images and thumbnail directories.
Edit:
you might folow the discussion about the chmod stuff here
