I believe they're just 72dpi. (edit: that should probably be ppi, instead of dpi...oh well)
My 17" powerbook is 1440x900, I think. But it's a few years old. I don't know about the new 'High definition' powerbook. I'll be looking into it more when the new intel powerbooks are announced... in 2006.
edit.. .the new 17" powerbook is: 1680-by-1050

well the issue is, i was helping another student with a flash portfolio slideshow and the teacher told her to re-edit all the photos at 90dpi...and i am trying to figure out the reason behind it

say what? noooo... if it's an online or CD based portfolio... you simply decide a pixel size (i.e. 640x480, 500x350, etc) or something for the photos... dpi (or ppi) has nothing to do with displaying onscreen. They should decide on a minimum monitor resolution to design for the project and go from there (etc., etc.)...
I would be fascinated to know why 90 dpi.
