I have been taking pictures for about a year and I wanted to put them on the internet creating a photoblog. I have a site (www.plutch.com) using my-expressions.com but I didn't like the way it came out. I saw Pixelpost.org on a lot of photoblogs and I am attempting to load it to no avail. I do not have ANY mysql experience but I do have a database and my host is yahoo.com. I was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to walk me through installation or give me some very detailed instructions.

I appreciate any help,

Nate

did you check here? http://blog.wrywriter.com/?p=18
if you did, what step are you having problems with? also, i'm not entirely sure pixelpost will work with yahoo because they don't do ftp or anything.

I am completely lost. I have stuff on my website www.plutch.com that I don't know what to do with. Yahoo is telling me one thing, while the wrywriter and install files with pixelpost are telling me another. I can't find any permissions to change to 777 and I probably sound like an idiot right now, I'll add a frustrated one at that. This really is like Greek to me, you see I spend most of my time golfing. Someone help, please I am a humble man.

Can you tell as if your host is linux or windows based?
If linux - there must be chmod 777 option but if windows - there isnt chmod command but another (which must be set by hosting company).

Give us link to your PP installation.

Maranello,
There's a good chance that Yahoo doesn't offer the flexibility you need. Changing the permissions is done by connecting to your hosting account with FTP software. If they don't allow it then i'm not sure if you'll be able to sort things out. Best bet is to email their tech support team and ask if it's possible.

My host is Windows based and no, I still don't see anything about changing file permissions. I am going to email yahoo and explain my problem. Thanks to all for trying to help me out I appreciate it.

I suggest getting a 'real' host. It's so inexpensive now, that it's not worth the aggravation of 'free' hosting.

I know pixelpost supports a host you may check out; but I use: www.dot5hosting.com... It's like $60 a year... I have a few dozen sites through them and never had a problem in five years.

I think that I am going to go with another host. I chose Yahoo because I bought my domain from them but they have their own set of rules and it is making things very confusing. I really just want to create a site and get back to taking photo's. I appreciate everyone's imput, I really do.

Good idea... Once you get your new host (one that pixelpost recommends or someone on the board), come back and the people here are really great at getting everyone up and running!

I'm using Eleven2's EX package (http://www.eleven2.com/pages/hosting_features.php)
it's very comfortable, and they're helpful guys (plus they have a sub-forum here to offer added support to Pixelpost users).

Is that enough space for your photoblog? Not making an assumption I am just wondering, thinking longterm.

Seriously thanks for all of the feedback
