help starting out

Sorry to sound like a bumbling novice, but that is exactly what I am.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of any books / articles / programs that could give me a better understanding of Photoblogging and how to set up my own.
I've tried to install pixel post but have hit a few problems, which seem to highlight my lack of understanding of the basic code. Am I biting off more than I can chew?

I've dabbled a bit with html, but ended up using a web design program called Freeway to build my previous website as it resembled DTP programs like Quark which I am quite confident with.

I really want to build a photoblogging site and really like the look of all the ones featured on this site, but I am worried that I might need to learn to walk before I run.

Any help / ideas will be greatly appreciated

Sorry, you got no answer before....

well, let's figure out what you need to run a photo-blog:

1)
some kind of basic HTML-knowledge (normally this is not the case if you use wysiwyg-editors and I think the editor which you mentioned is one of these)

but nevertheless, if you do not want to use the existing templates for the blog you will have to edit them or modify them, maybe this is possible with your editor as well

as you don't mention which problems you had installing PixelPost I cannot help you really, but the only things which you need for running a photoblog like PixelPost:

a webserver / hoster / webspace hoster which gives you the following:

Webhosting somewhere with an Apache webserver and PHP plus MySQL installed (that's my working environment). To have Exif data displayed PHP need to be compiled with --exif-enabled flag. GD-lib required for thumbnailing. Tested and installed on Unix, Linux and Mac OS X.
PHP 4.3.0 or higher. MySQL 3.23.58 or higher. Should do it...

3)
you need a small amount of understanding how to set the file-requirements for the directories and how to upload files

that is really everything, you must not learn to walk again, it is really easy!

Am I biting off more than I can chew?

I don't think so, many beginners were able to get it running

so first check out if your webspace supports PHP and MYSQL and than let's start again.
