All details can be found above.
Thouroughly tested in Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera on Windows XP. Other browsers should work fine but I can't vouch for this. Please post all problems related to the template in this thread.

you know that my first steps with a new template are always "validating"
so I saw that HTML is passing validation, but the CSS needs some fine-tuning...
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?profile=css2&warning=2&uri=http%3A//dev.jlspurling.com/pixelpost/1.5/index.php%3Fshowimage%3D3
maybe you check that
I like the 4 links atop of the images, well done!

Connie - i knew about those css warnings but they didn't bother me - removing them is simple but it removes the opacity effect on thumbnail.s i think if anybody cares enough about entirely valid css then they'll know what to remove themselves - the point is in my opinion that the whole thing is cross-borwser compatible - valid css doesn't necessarily mean everything will work!
i was careful to stick to valid xhtml though :)

Joe[y]:
I love the template. I've installed it on my blog (http://www.picturedujour.com/index.php).
If I put your credit and link on my about page, do you mind if I remove it from the footer? Or would you prefer that I leave it in the footer?
thanks,
Jim

there is virtually no branding anywhere in pixelpost, and we like it that way..
i doubt joey will be offended if you relocate/remove his name.
Joe[y]

Jim - you can remove the credit all together for all i care. the link will just get me a little extra traffic - but it doesn't bother me in the slightest to be honest. i don't mind as long as people don't start claiming it there own.
very glad you like it!

Thanks! I'll definitely put your link in the "about" page.
Happy Saturnalia everyone!

an update 2.1 is now available. turns out i missed out the background graphics first time round, plus i took the opportunity to improve the header output big time! which means search engines will be blown away! have fun!

Update - if not already please use version 2.1.2 - i had made some silly bugs in the previous versions.

Maybe a sily question, but I cannot see any EXIF information on your demo site. Is there any?

that's because i didn't include any. if somebody wanted to display exif i've left them the freedom to include it anywhere they want in the template - there would be just as many people who don't want exif in their template as there are that would so i just stayed clear of it.

Fairy nuff. I'm really tempted to switch to a version of your template. But not for a few days.

I've tried it, getting rid of the background stripes, and I like it. But there's stuff I need to tweak, like the alignment of the comments division and a couple of things like the background colours and the contents of the About page. But this is the closest I've come to a template that I want to build on. So, thanks.
Given that, I'd be interested in comments on the tweakage so far (http://photos.jeremycherfas.net).

Awesome template, great work! I've made a few tweaks (added navigation to the top menu bar, exif data below the current picture, visitor count).

Thanks joe[y] for making this.

I like this template a lot. Gonna have to try it out. I'm waiting for a good portfolio style add-on but I think its easier to just start a new database and copy all the files to http://main/newphotos_or_portfolio
Quick question: is navigation only through clicking the photos on the bottom cause usually I look for the pref and next links

Hi joey,
Love this template !
I need help though, i have been trying to change the background so that it shows black with the lines on top, but can't seem to get it to work. I am changing the background color in the style.css file but I must be doing somehting wrong, because nothing chnage sat all...I have successfuly changed it in the wrapper though.
Can you give me a hint? / help? Where exactly do i change that?
Thanks in advance, and again, awesome template!

if you want to change the background color you need to remove the background image url part as well as changing the color hex code.

Well, I was hoping to get the lines effect but with a blck background with the gray lines over it instead of the white / cream, etc... so is the color being defined right now by the background image? Is that it?

I'm pretty sure the background in its entirety is being defined by
/templates/lightwhitetwo/img/bgstripes.gif
So if you want a black background with grey stripes, you'll need to find/create the pattern you want, and then upload it to the above directory and overwrite the existing gif.

yup. as subneural said - try just inverting the bgstripes.gif in photoshop.

I've been using Light White 2 on my site since I began (http://www.profane.ca), and I really enjoy the design. I have one question concerning the CSS, though. I should mention I'm not very well-versed in css-based design, so it's slightly difficult to reverse-engineer a site like this in order to make changes, as I don't have a clear picture on how each div works as a whole.
I've added a div for notes below the photo, and that's gone alright so far. I'd now like to add a 1 or 2px border around each image, but I'm having trouble dealing with the 20px padding above each photo which separates the photo from the navbar.
If I make the border 1px, IE displays the border around the image plus the padding, so there's white space inside the border that's above the photo, like this:
http://www.profane.ca/extra/pixelpostforum.jpg
Whereas firefox simply won't display the border at all.
Any ideas on what I can do to get a border in there?
Thanks again for the template.

looking at your link with both firefox 1.5 and IE7beta you seem to have sorted out your problem. congrats - the padding rather than use of margin was to correct a rendering problem in IE5.

Hey--unfortunately I haven't, the image today just features a fake border. So it all has to do with padding, then, I'm assuming?

there is a problem with character encoding.
I checked with validator.w3.org and got the following message:
Character Encoding mismatch!
The character encoding specified in the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) is different from the value in the <meta> element (utf-8). I will use the value from the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) for this validation.
Note: The Validator XML support has some limitations.
could you try to set the META with UTF-8 first?
I suspect this PBO AUTH....
with OPERA your template is not so perfectly pretty, the line with the comment-link and the line with the image title are not really positioned ok...
Joe[y]
03-27-2006, 05:03 PM
ok. two solutions in one: IE works with this in IE7 so i assume it does in the others... but can't be sure.
in style.css find #photo and insert the following in its place:
#photo {
border:0px;
margin:20px auto 0px;
clear:both;
}
and to sort out the opera problem change line 26 of image_template.html to this:
<div id="date">
[<IMAGE_COMMENTS_NUMBER>] <COMMENT_POPUP> - <a href="index.php?showimage=<IMAGE_ID>" title="permalink"><IMAGE_DATETIME></a><br /><h2><IMAGE_TITLE></h2></div>
</div>

Hey Joey, thanks for the advice: I've added borders to my site now. Here's a new problem, however... how can I get the links menu above the photo to extend the full width across? The width is now 808px with the border, but the links bar is still just extending across by 800px. I've tried changing the width of the menu.li to 202px, but that just breaks the menu bar and puts the last menu link on a line below.
Any suggestions?
The site is at http://www.profane.ca
Thanks again for the template and the help.
Joe[y]
05-29-2006, 12:06 PM
the width of the menu bar is also defined in image_template.html - ie, it takes it's width from your images... so you need to change the width here:
<div id="menu" style="min-width:660px;width:800px;">
thing is so many things in the template are defined by the width of the photo that playing around with widths in the template might be a bad idea. the reason the menu can't stretch across the whole of the tempalte as it is is that the wrapper element has padding.

Thanks, Joey. I changed the wrapper and menu widths to 816px, and so far, everything is aligned in both firefox and IE, the only thing left is firefox not showing the border. I'm assuming this has something to do with an IE-specific piece of CSS you have somewhere in the template, or maybe just with my screwing up some part of your design. The CSS I'm using for the border is what you suggested:
#photo {
border:8px black;
margin:20px auto 0px;
clear:both;
}
Thanks again.

well first off try changing
id="photo"></img>
to
id="photo" />
as it should be that. maybe that will help with your border problem.

i didn't think anyone would be interested in it. i mean.... it is fairly plain - it's a dumbed down version of the simple template in fact.
but sure. if people want it then i will.
