Hi all.

I am a hobby photographer who lacks the skill and time to develop a web site for his photography, but does not want to use an off-the-shelf photo-blogging solution.

How can I find someone to build a Pixelpost site for me & with me? I live in the Los Angeles area, although nowadays that is of secondary importance.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Do you have a domain name registered? And who is your hosting company? PixelPost is really easy to set up out of the box, and the templates provide an easy place from which to start. If you find a site you like, someone here can probably help you to modify the look of it to suit yourself.

Registering a domain is easy, I can do that. Can you recommend a host or two for me to look at? What should I consider when evaluating a host?

I recommend www.addaction.net. They have i kick-ass customer service and they also have Fantastico which means that you can easily install a lot of different tools.
You use MyPhpAdmin there to set up a database for pixelpost.

Cost: 83.40 per year but you get six months for free the first year.

I have them and I love them! And I´m not getting paid to say it ;)

I might recommend using catalog.com to host your site. It is where I host mine and while it doesn't boast some of the features that others do, for a single user account it works out really well. $50 a year gets everything you need to run a pixelpost site.

I have been with them for years and continue to enjoy the customer service there. Even when the problem is my fault they usually lend a helping hand. I host my dad and sister's site with them, too. Works for me!

I'm on TextDrive; not the cheapest, but very friendly folks with all the PHP and SQL you will need.
