EDIT - I took the first picture off my blog because in comparsion to the new shots it was crap and had no reason to be on there, so you can just avoid this post from this point on :)

I was looking over some shots from tonights game and comparing it to the first hockey game I had shot, and things seemed to have improved immensely, to me at least :) Although I have only shot maybe 5 hockey games, combined with shooting other sports and taking what I learned from it all I've made vast improvements. Anyways, thought I would post my progress for the hell of it:

1. From the first hockey game I ever shot:

2. From the third game:

Very nice shots! How did you make the shot from above (last photo)?

In the SAIT arena they have a catwalk that runs the length of the rink so that they can service the machinery that is above the ice. I made my way up there and looked down over top the net.

much much better, color is great as you progressed...hockey is a hard sport too...shot it a few weeks ago...can have some nasty light and hard to follow actions

That has everything to do with custom WB off the ice, makes all the difference in the world.

You can clearly see the improvement. Wow, the third one is definitely a pro shot. Not having the glass in the way of that shot had to help - but my fear of heights makes being on the catwalk above the ice a scary proposition for me! The shot shows the action -and catching the puck in air as well... nicely done!

custom WB is indeed helpful, but can b e useless under certain types of lights as well...which is really annoying
