Error on image upload!

After installing, I find that I'm unable to upload any images. I'm getting the following errors:

Warning: imagejpeg(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/[omited]/photos/admin/index.php on line 1183

Warning: chmod(): No such file or directory in /home/[omited]/photos/admin/index.php on line 1185

Now again always the same questions:

did you follow the installation steps?
is there an image directory?
did you set the right attributs / CHMOD to the directory

did you read in the GENERAL INFO whether the directories are existing and ok?
did you search in the forum messages?
