Hi all.

I try to get my JPEGs below 200 kb - I don't like going below 150 kb, it just degrades them too much for my taste.

My workflow is that I shoot raw data, then work in PSD and then save to TIFF for print or to JPEG for web. But when I save an image as a JPEG I have the option to select interlace scanning, as well as some other options. Is interlacing a good idea? Any other advice for optimizing for photoblog consumption?

personally i just 'save as' with the standard settings (but dumb down the image quality to 8 or 9) - should knock the file sizes down to about 60 or 70 kb.

I'm not so concerned about the file size, in the sense that I understand how to control size, and what the advantages/disadvantages are. What I was wondering is if there is any reason to use interlace - will it render the image differently or faster on a web site?

I haven't used interlace with JPG's, just GIF's (obviously not photos ;) ) and it does cause the image to load differently in most web browsers, so I expect JPG's are the same.

Basically what happens is instead of loading top to bottom, it loads every few lines and then goes back and loads the lines in between so the picture gets to be better quality as it loads.
