don't creat thumbnail

I use pixelpost 1.4.3 . but I don't know why it dont creat thumbnail ! and show this error:
Fatal error: Only variables can be passed by reference in /home/eilia13/public_html/fotolog/includes/functions.php on line 54
please help me!

this mean that the problem is from pixelpost 1.4.3?

the problem is the new PHP version 4.4.1 and PHP 5.1 has changed its functionality in some specific areas that 1.4.3 is not compatible with but 1.5 support those changes.
