Setting Permissions?

:cry: Strange as it seems I know less than nothing about all this. But I'm trying. Could someone tell me how to "3. Set the permissions on the images and thumbnails folder. (chmod 777)" ?
How do you do that? And what is chmod 777? Gulp! Grateful for any guidance.

IF you use a FTP-programm for uploading the files to your server, und for sure you do, you will have to find out (maybe read the help?) how to change permissions for folders and files with that program

Thank you so much. I did as you suggested and a profoudly difficult thing just became easy. I went to 'File/Get Info' on the Image and Thumbnail folders with my Transmit FTP programme, and it allowed me to change the permissions. Thanks again.
