I think it's pretty cool functionality. However, I don't know where you'd (the user) actually use it effectively in a site.

yeap... I was wondering about making it for the admin panel where user can design the collage page....

In terms of collage-functionality and as a WYSIWYG editor for developing that style of page, I believe it would be brilliant!

I suggest only to add some CSS for image titles which are above each photo ;P I.e. make it smaller and bold - it should look better.
