Hello again...

I have searched the forums but I can't find an answer to this question. I want to use <ADVNCD_SITE_VISITORNUMBER> to track visits, but I don't want the information to be visable on my site. Is this possible? I've tried putting that tag all over in different places in my image template, but it always shows up.

Currently I am not using the tag, that's why you don't see it...

Thanks for any help offered,
Chris

if you don't want it to be visible i'd suggest something like mint (haveamint.com) or a similar stats program - these are far more accurate.. in fact, the pixeplost tags for visitor number are very innacurate right now.

Thanks for the reply! I requested a license or whatever they call it from google analytics, and am waiting for that to arrive. I honestly don't even need any details at all on the visits, I just like to see the number. I realize the PP system isn't very accurate at this time, but I was just hoping it could be done. I suppose I could just make the text color match the background color and it would "appear" invisible...

I just noticed that even though I don't have the tag anywhere in any of my templates that new visits are being logged. Is that how it's supposed to work? If so, that's all I need...

yup. basically any new ips (well, those older than an hour at least) get recorded in pixelpost_visitors table. this can result in a big database table which is why by default this option is turned off.

IMHO it is enough to set addon to by on and there is no need to put it into template. But just like I said - I dont remember code of this addon.

Just check if addon counts new visits without tag in template file.

I'm not a php guru like the rest of you, so I was wondering if there was a way to get PP to ignore the pings and other automated scans of the blog. Just catch browsers stoping on the site would be (to me) the best way to count. Isn't there a way to check eash visit for a type of browser. This would then eliminate much of the "other" visits while making the counters more accurate. Sorry if this is a silly question since I can't code it myself but I thought I would ask.

this is a real good point.
We are thinking about limiting the counter to real visits and not counting robots and pings as well

I may as well start here as I've trawled through topics to find a solution but to no avail:

I use Pixelgrain as a template and it automatically displays stats on my archives page - BUT whenever I view my 'Addons' page in Admin it resets that counter to zero.....the total visitor number is still climbing (& is at present at 2509) but the displayed version continues to reset itself when I click 'Addons'...

Very odd - anyone think of a solution?

Does anyone know if Haveamint.com's counter will ignore pings and other automated scans of the blog and just count "real" browsers visits?

mint is probably the most clever stats program available which means it only spots real visits.
