Desperate for Akismet

I have installed Akismet and have my api key and its been verified. I changed the code in my index.php and comments.php and all the buttons associated with akismet seem to be appearing and functioning. The problem is, I keep getting spammed by this one spammer, http:/phlog/user/valiumnx2 (the valium part can be substituted for just about any rx drug). I keep reporting the spam to akismet using the report spam button and the comments are moved to moderation, but the spam keeps coming through. I get about 1/hr which is manageable but nonetheless annoying :-) Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

Strange - I am getting the very same SPAM they are really hitting my blog but all of them are being caught

i just put valium and phblog.net in my blacklist in index.php and away they went...

the spam from http:/phlog/user/valiumnx2 is not stopped by Akismest in my blog as well :(

mark, and se. thanks for the replies. Mark, I will put those in the ban list through the admin panel (thats what you meant right) I had added them both but one had a typo and the other was too specific as the post will change ever so slightly from post to post. Its tough trying to run a photoblog from work ;-) Anyhow, I'll let you know how it works out! Thanks again!

All of you should report the SPAMs missed by Akismet to Akismet....

i think akismet might just be a bit slow on this one. it might not be the perfect solution to spam - but don't be fooled... there is no perfect solution and for now akismet is the closest thing to perfect you'll find.

also talk with your host - although comments aren't available at my blog right now they always have been and i've never used any spam protection on pixelpost and have never received spam - lucky? no - just a secure host who spots the bad ips.

I'd like to thank everyone for their responses. I am finally catching the spam! Akismet & spam control seem to be working. The key I found to getting the phlog.net garbage was going to the admin control panel and options - spam control and adding the words "phlog" & "valium" to the black list. That seems to catch them. I've been at this for a little over 1/2 yr with pixelpost and I learn something new all the time :P

With phlog.net there is also xanax and somavnx.

Askimet is finally beginning to catch these, but although "phlog", "phlog.net" and all the "vnx2" and other medical terms are in my blacklist, they are still getting through.

I wrote the guy who intially wrote phlog.net about canceling these accounts, and this was his answer:

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble, but I am not involved with phlog anymore and am on vacation in Japan with very limited 'net access. I have forwarded on your mail to 20six, who now own and run phlog.

20six is one of the most evil systems.. they make you believe that they offer free blog hosting

but in reality they are the jumpbase for spammers.. which install faked blogs automatically and bombard the web with referer spam etc.
they came to my domain in thousands from 20six uk, later 20six france, the german guy at 20six told me he was innocent (I didn't want to know that...)
and he closed some accounts

but 20six is still showing up in my ref-karma-tables...
