17" is well out of my budget but the 13" white 2GHz mb with expanded 1gig ram will do me just fine :)

It sure looks nice. I'll jealous if you get it. report back to the forum if you get it! I'm curious to know how PS runs on it since it's not going to run native until the end of the year or early 07.

Amen to that. I'm a student myself... if it wasn't for my freelance work... i would have no toys to speak of... sigh.

17" just defeats the reason for me needing a laptop...those things are HUGE. I guess if I just wanted a mobile desktop that would be my choice though. Straight from home to office...but I'm out and about and it has to fit in the photo bag.

I'm gunning for the 15" Pro close to fully loaded...but the price of these new macbooks might tide me over. I have to see these new keyboards and glossy screen in person though.

I want the 17" because besides photography I'm working with 3D modeling and animation. the extra screenspace is invaluable! Otherwise, the 15" would be marvy! Heck...even the macbooks look great!

I think I've decided to get the 17" myself. As a graphic designer the additional screen size/resolution will be nice. Even better when I add an extra 20" cinema display down the road as they share the same max resolution.

One thing keeping me away from the 15.4" is all the complaints about heat and noise. I was able to test out the 15 on the weekdn though and it's a pretty sweet machine.

ive spent a LOT of time in the local mac store...they all run hot, very hot. hotter than any machine ive ever used. def not meant for use in your lap...get a desk, or a cooling pad to put betweek it and yourself as a heat shield, maybe some of the tiles the shuttle uses for heat deflection during re-entry...prob pick those up on ebay and pad the bottom of the machine with them and some super glue...lol

I hear that, but the 17" does run quite a bit cooler than the 15.4", more space to dissipate the heat. I also haven't heard of any complaints about the mooing or whining from the 17

Well... I now am the happy owner of a 17" macbook pro. My old 17" powerbook pooped out. It's... it's... heavenly. I'll be eating raman noodles for the next 3 years... but it's worth it.

Set up was incredible. I connected my old powerbook to this one via firewire while setting it up and 1.5 hours later, my ENTIRE laptop (files, settings, apps, etc.) was basically ghosted/imaged onto the new machine! It's gorgeous!! I'm completely back up and running!!

Anyway... I now have to get a new kind of card reader because this new laptop does not have a PCMCIA slot. I have to get a USB2 reader now.

So fire, it's running cool and silent. I'll keep you posted.

wwwweeeee...big macbook pro party at blinkings' place (assuming your're stabilized and have a roof over your head, now)... I'd volunteer my place but I'm installing new floors... so it's not too hospitable at the moment!

haha...i have a hotel room for the next 8 weeks, we can trash it and not even have to pick up!

i just polished off the software choices and tweaks to this thing, cant figure out how i ever used windows for so long...ive used macs for the last year pretty hefty, but owning one, configuring it your way...it's a whole new ball game.

gonna make a post about my first experience with a mac on idiom when i get it back together.

oh, yes it is. And a fun game it is, too!
Later this summer, I'm going to attempt Boot camp with XP...

gonna make a post about my first experience with a mac on idiom when i get it back together.

I'll check it out once you update your "404" page. ;)

My 17 MBP arrived last week. Quite a speed boost from my previous PoweMac G4 400MHz. The 17" screen is also perfect for design and photography work. Now all I need is for Adobe to release the Universal Binary updates.

CS2 is slow as hell, esp working in RAW or layer effects, and CS3 wiill be universal, which is still a chunk of time away

i dont know how you people tote around those 17's though...haha

The 17's really not that much bigger than the 15.4, but the addes resolution is an amazing advantage, especially when it's your main main workstation.

I'm still using CS1 and the speed's not too bad, but I made the switch from an aging G4 400. Everything in Rosetta runs a lot faster than on my old machine. The maxed out RAM doesn't hurt either.

haha...no its not MUCH bigger, but it doesnt fit in my bag(s)

No?

I bought a 15" Wenger laptop bag and it fits my 17" like a glove. I found that all the 17" bags left way too much space on either side and felt more like airline baggage.

But to each his own.
