View Full Version : Call me confused...

I'm not the most computer savvy person in the world, but can usually get around putting programs on my server etc. After contacting my host and making sure I had everything I needed, I went to install. Then I got confused.

The install is:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALL
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Directory structure of Pixelpost:

/* <= that is the "root-directory" of Pixelpost
/addons/* <= directory for addons
/admin/* <= the "heart of PixelPost", administration
/doc/* <= documentation
/includes/* <= necessary files
/language/* <= language files go here
/templates/* <= templates go here
/templates/pixelpost-light/*
/templates/pixelpost-dark/*
/templates/simple/*
/templates/pixelpost-light-archivepaged/*
/templates/utf-rtl/*
/images/* <= create this directory, CHMOD to 777
/thumbnails/* <= create this directory, CHMOD to 777

That all seems fine to me, but there are some things I don't get.

First, where does the index.php file go? Second, do I create a new directory (such as "blog"??)

This was what I was going to do. In my main directory for this domain, I was going to create a folder called "blog." Then, I was going to upload everything IN to that folder. (not the folder I downloaded called "pixelpost1-5rc1-2," rather everything inside that. Would that be correct?)

Then from there, inside said "blog" folder, create the images and thumbnails folders.

I'm not sure if that is correct or not, so I wanted to confirm on here. I went to a couple of the threads with the install instructions, but one of the links doesn't work and the other says it's outdated. Any help is much appreciated. It's probably extremly simple to install this, but I'm pretty confused!

Thanks in advance for any help!

The files and folders should stay the way they are in the Pixlepost download folder. The index.php goes in the top level directory (in other words, "index.php" is in the same directory as your PP folders. That file does not go inside any of the PP folders). You don't need a new folder such as "blog".

My PP blog is at http://www.picturedujour.com. When I FTP to my server, I have everything in my public_html folder just the way it was when I downloaded PP. If I'm not mistaken, Web browsers look for "index.htm" or "index.php" files first. If you create the "blog" folder, then the URL to your PP blog would be: www.yoursite.com/blog/

Does that answer your questions?
