How do I apply a theme/template?

I know it's an amateur question but how do I apply a template?

Are those the only options I have or can I customize the layout? By this, I mean background colors other than white or black?

well, you can download more templates through the old site which has a link on http://pixelpost.org or from the templates area here on the forum, or you can open these templates up in a text/html editor and tweak them yourself.

http://wiki.pixelpost.org should have instructions on how to tweak a template and get you started with html if you are new to that
