I am trying to do the rc1-2 update and it has not been working. I made changes to the image_template.html file (in pixelpost-dark) and also to the pixelpost.php file and uploaded them all (all the files in the zip folder for the update). That did not work (when I went to the admin screen it still said “1.5 April 2006”) so I deleted all the folders to be replaced on the server and then uploaded all of the new ones and then when you would go to the blog I would just get a white screen with no info at all. I had to revert to backup to get the page back up.

The main reason I want to update is the rc1 update is supposed to fix the problem that 1.5 has where when someone clicks the comment link it will take them back to the first photo in the blog. I am very new to this so I may be missing something simple but could anyone who has updated from “1.5 April 2006” to “rc1-2” tell me the procedure? If you know the way to do it, it would be much appreciated.

this many be some confusing between the system, because 1.5rc1 is not a super official release, but we were forced to for security issues, when you have 1.5rc1 running it will only show as 1.5 in the latest version.

This issue you wish to update for is not repaired in 1.5rc1 though, 1.5 final is in testing and will be released soon, most likely within the week if all goes well.

Ok Blink, thanks a lot, I guess I'll wait for that update.

Oh, one other question: will the update explain how to do the upgrade in the readme file? Hopefully it will! Also will this be the 1.6 release?

no, this will be a 1.5 final, it will actually be listed as just 1.5, vs the download you are getting from the main site now which is 1.5rc1 which stands for release candidate, basically a stable testing version of 1.5 that we really needed public feedback from, security/bug fixes will continue on to 1.5.1 and 1.5.2 etc, when 1.6 comes out it means it contains a new feature, then will split into security and bug fixes during 1.6, then down the road 2.0 will be a big bad ass photoblogging tool...

baby steps though, 1.5 is our security version really, it contains many code cahnges to keep your site safer, spam on the otherhand is a constant battle that we could alwasy use more geeks figuring out how to help fight it.

Great, thanks for explaining it all to me. I'll keep checking back here for the release notes. I hope the readme will tell me how to update because I'm such a noob with this stuff.

unless the database has had changes made to it, it wil just be a file replacement, there will be instructions on how to update though.
