Hi all, i'm new here and new to coding too.

I have been using sites such as Flickr and deviantART but only decided to try and code my own.

I've only ever done HTML before so i'm kinda backwards with regards to coding.

I initially tried MT, but I found that too steep a learning curve (i'd rather take photos than spend time learning how to code just so I can upload a photo!) so I turned to PP.

I'm glad I did because I found that it wasn't so difficult to get a site up and running.

Please take time to critique my site and comment on it, especially if you feel that something needs to be changed or if something is wrong. Please also advise me on how to do it.. like I said, I have no coding experience and this site was completed in one evening so there is bound to be mistakes present and i'd appreciate all the help I can get.

portfolio.KS ~ (http://www.portfolio-ks.com/)

Thanks :)

make the photos smaller, i only have 900px of height to play with on a macbook pro...they dont fit on my big monitor at a height of 1024px

I know, it doesn't fit on my Macbooks screen either but i've seen many blogs, and even from people in here that are fine with using photos that are larger than the screen real estate so i'm guessing it's ok for some people.

If that's the only negative, then i'm quite chuffed :) I would've thought there are more problems that need fixing that that.

Kind of agree here - I gnereally use 800px on the long side for posts, unless its a panorama then obviously they are longer still.

Nice work getting it up and running; looks and loads fine for me with IE7 and Firefox.

First fix these errors:
Home
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.portfolio-ks.com%2Findex.php
Archive
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.portfolio-ks.com%2Findex.php%3Fx%3Dbrowse%26pagenum%3D1&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline
About
http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.portfolio-ks.com%2Findex.php%3Fx%3Dabout&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype=Inline

I like your design, nice and clean, maybe you should make the background of the comment section white instead of the gradient imagae.

Thanks, but being honest, i've have no idea why most of those are showing as errors. Some of it i'm sure is created by PP when using tags but that maybe my ignorance. I've had only 3 days experience of coding CSS and javascript (basically these last few days of making my site).

Some pointers or points in the right direction would be helpful.

I would first take of that onload-Javascript and "clean" the code before I start with some gimmicks like this "onload---"

<li title="header=[] offsetx=[-65] body=[<a href='./index.php?showimage=33'><img src='thumbnails/thumb_20060729004457_img_0302.jpg' width='60' height='60' alt='Negative Blue' title='Negative Blue' /></a>] fade=[on] delay=[500]">

what is this title="header..." ?
take it off!

this is absolutely no HTML at all

before going too deep into details (I want to take care of my PP page ;=) )

use the firefox webdeveloper extensions
if you do not know what it is, you find a long explanation in our wiki

http://wiki.pixelpost.org

I am sure you will be able to clean the code, fix the errors etc.

good luck!

PS: I forgot one thing: at my monitor, the images are not visible completely when the page loads, too much text on top and too big image in that case

beware that not everybody has a mighty 20" monitor

I use a smaller monitor with a smaller resolution for compatibility - reasons because I have many visitors at my websites from not-too-hightech-and-rich-countries ;=)

got all 3 pages to verify under W3C, wasn't as hard as it first looked.. most of it cleared itself after I fixed on or two problems.

I am considering making my images smaller, the landscape photos fit quite well, but if I resize the portrait photos, then it leaves too much of a white space either side (see the photo Yellow (http://www.portfolio-ks.com/index.php?showimage=32) ), but then it may be easier for navigation if I resize and for the reasons mentioned by Connie above too.

Any more suggestions would be much appreciated.

Right, this is the final final version. All W3C compliant and working flawlessly afaik. I only run OS X and Safari and FF so you IE users, if you find any problems, please let me know.

Thanks for the help and for the PP app. It's a great way to Photoblog. :)
