View Full Version : Problems advertising photoblog
I set up my photoblog (http://www.danielkaspar.info/iamacamera/) a couple of month ago and invited my friends to look at my images. Recently I thought about making the blog known to a wider audience.
Two weeks ago, I sent my link to http://www.blimage.de/ and to http://london.photobloggers.org/ as I am based in South England and Germany. Unfortunately my blog was not added to their websites and I did not get any reply.
Does anybody know what could have gone wrong? Adding my photoblog should not be a problem actually.
Thanks a lot in advance for your advice.

sending links to www.blimage.de maybe is a little nothing, what you think?
There is a community and you can register there and enter your domain there
but do not expect that sending a link to somebody will be enough ;=)
It's up to you, nobody will do the work for you ;=)
You are right, Connie, that would not be enough. Registering, entering my url and writing a nice descriptive text or email is what I did in both cases. Any other idea what to do? Maybe it takes a bit longer because of the summer holidays.

there are many lists what you can do around in the world
participate in forums, contribute to communities, have your link in signature files etc
give something to the community and it will give you back !
Thanks for your replies.
I just received an email from London Photobloggers. They have added my site to their list. Maybe a coincidence or maybe they are reading this thread ;-) Hopefully blimage will list my blog aswell.
Jdleung, thanks for the critique, i might use a lighter color for my menues.

@nox
blimage needs sometimes longer then expected ;)
same on vfxy... all you need is patience.
add your blog to photoblogs.org as well and then surf the net, leave comments, show the people that you are there with a photoblog... then things comes together ;)

being a part of the community is extremely important, very few users who are not active community particepants are noticed much if at all. Those who are most active generally make up the top core of photobloggers.

pretty much covers all the general ways to get traffic
blinking8s, thanks a lot for the link.

I actually thought those with the most interesting photos would get the most traffic...
I think adding a site to google would also help.

Not necessarily, some of the top photobloggers only post images that are interesting to me occaisionally. The things that keeps me going back to their sites is: 1. They're updated frequently, most have new photos every day, and at a bare minimum two or three new shots every week. 2. (This seems to be a natural consequence of point number 1). They post a shot that I find interesting, often enough to make me want to check the site regularly.
These two points could really apply to anywebsite. Update frequently. Show/tell me something interesting often enough to keep me interested.
There is always photoblogs.org - don't really know how much traffic you can get from there but i mean, yeah well almost everybody is on photoblogs.org hehe.
More tagging your blog people == more blog visitors and so on. You tag more then more people tag you and so on :)
Links on good pages are also great thing to be more popular.
Generaly - be more active in photoblog world then you will get more visitors (and your traffic will rise every month) :P
I have now successfully added my site to london photobloggers and blimage. Maybe I should also have a look at photoblogs.org as Vernon.Trent and Ubbe suggested.
After reading Dakwegmo post, I thought about what would make me visit a photoblog frequently and started a new thread about it here: http://forum.pixelpost.org/showthread.php?t=5002
