counting site_visitors

I use to have a site_visitorcounting on my startpage and was slowly moving towards my first 1000 visitors when suddenly I was down to around 100 visitors again.

Dont know if the counter starts from the beginning again when the visitors exceeds 1000.??



Anyone who could tell me what happend?

no, this would be crazy

but you don't tell us which counter you use, if this counter is external or a counter which you use at your webhosting space

if the counter is external, ask the guys / supporters of that service if they cleared the tables
if the counter is working on your webiste, check the database whether the tables are changed or not

if you want us to help you give us more precise informations

Sorry for not including enough info.

I use the internal counter included in the database. I have put the code "<SITE_VISITORNUMBER>" on the firstpage.
It is still working as its supposed to do but when I reached 1000 visitors it started from 0 again.
Strange!

I just want to know what happend.
