Hi all,
has anyone seen/done a flash template? Do you know if it's available anywhere? thanks!
Indira
Battin made few but none of them is public release :/
It would be great to learn how to use Flash together with Pixelpost. Does anybody know about a tutorial or a public Flash template?

its more than a template, as you must connect the flash and php/mysql together...it takes a fairly good understanding of flash and actionscript to make something nice.
personally, 99% of flash use is pointless...i dont see why anyone would want flash on their photoblog except for animated caption drop downs or nice navigation.

Keep in mind that some people won't have flash enabled or if they have an old version (say on a dodgy old computer like the one I have at work) they might not be able to see your site if it's completely based on flash.
I am quite tempted by using a flash template, because it gives me better control over the layout and the typography.
What puts me of is the effort I would have to make when it comes to programming. I don't know anything about it and therefore it would take a lot of time. Right now it is not worth it for me.
And Kristarella is right, some people might not be able to see the site.

people will see your flash just fine, the whole "doesnt have flash player installed" arguement is dead for the most part. Modern day embed meathods check for the player and can redirect and such as needed for correct versions and stuff.

Hear what you are saying b8, but flash can still be slow.
One of my customers went with big flash site and it cannot even completely load on dial-up. Appreciate that much of the world has moved on from that connection method (including me years ago) but some areas here have no alternative.
But new flash stuff (8) can be even lighter with so powerful effects that even in normal way ([x]html code) you are not able to get same or similar effect.
Other thing is that flash can "kill" older computers (can take too much power of CPU).

i completely agree. that arguement was true 6+ years ago but it is no longer valid.

i'm a designer/developer, i create websites and flash based cd-roms, and my response to that is that your customer also went with a designer/developer who doesn't know what they are doing, most likely because they were the cheapest - your customer probably got what they paid for. flash site can be EASILY built in seperate swf movies and load what's only needed, this creates initial loading files that are smaller then jpegs and gifs on a typical HTML site. anyone who packs an entire site full of embedded images and sounds into one large swf should be shot.
by the way, i can also create an non-flash HTML site that will take just as long to load then the "slow" flash sites you are talking about.

Like mine, 235Skin v3 has loads of js scripts to load...

would this kind of website be smaller in flash? i think quite equal...
BTW, besides the loading of several small movies instead of one big, the flash itself can detect smaller bandwidths and show them less -multimedia- content.
With few lines of actionscript coding ;)
A specialy when it have to show streamable data like movies, sound and so on.

I don't really want to get snippy about it, I was speaking from experience. Not everyone has the internet at home (although I do) so if they were forced to use their work computer and if their work computer was anything like mine they wouldn't be able to see it, for any number of reasons; slow network, old Flash player, OS9.
It is true that using flash you can make the site look and do just what you want it too. If you have to learn how to use it though it might be worth while learning how to do similar cool things with css. http://www.cssplay.co.uk/

It is exactly the same problem with CSS, old OS and browsers, the main issue about this is to push the natural evolution of technology. Kristarella, maybe you can encourage the company to upgrade software and hardware.
Slow network, old Flash player, OS9 is not a reason anymore, if a company can't pay this smalls things to be connected with rest of the world, then something is wrong there.
I live in Mexico City (people says Mexico is a third world country)... I have broadband connection, last MacOS X, last Firefox, Camino, Safari... you name it... and hey, I'm not rich... I have curiosity.
As 37signals says, this world was made for the curious.

Hello,
The flash website or the website using flash templates wont get indexed in google it is true..... Because the algorithm used by google wont accept frames and flash related programmes it can easily analyze other pages but it is really hard to index the Flash Templates (http://www.bestwebtemplates.com/search.asp) or Websites.....
Because i am having such websites it is not getting indexed so what i did is i redirect the Flash page to a normal HTML page then it get indexed and it came in the ranking then i got good visitors......
