View Full Version : What's your Resolution/Image Size?

So I'm just getting going with my photoblog. And over the past year I've poked around admiring the dozen's of amazing blogs out there...but now that I'm designing my own, I have to ask...

<b>What is the ideal resolution for your photos?</b> I would assume that this best be decided based on what people's monitor settings are, right? Someone who keeps their monitor resolution at <b>800x600</b> would have to scroll around my massive images vs. someone like me who keeps their monitor at <b>1024x768</b>.

Right now I'm maintaining a high resolution for my photos, while confining the image's size to 950 pixels across. I'd like to think that anyone who's visiting my photoblog will be working with 1024x768, but <b>does anyone have the specs on what percentage of people are using the different resolutions?</b> Or a script that would resize the image based on peoples setting?

what strange <b>... you <b>use</b> ??? <b>ou cannot enter html tags in the forum ;=)

you should test your design with different screen sizes
many people are online with 1024x...
not everybody has a big mac monitor for graphic designers

if you check out other blogs, you will see that a big bunch of people use a photo-width of 800, for me that is enough

I do not like to open a website where I cannot see the complete content...
where I have to scroll to see the photo (which is the main part of the page)

Both at home and work 1680x1050.

That said, I agree with Connie. Longest side of images I post is 800px (unless its a panorama which occasionally gets posted).

My resolution is 1440x900

The width of your images should not be more than 800px for landscape formats.
In my experience, portrait size photos can be a problem. On many
blogs I am not able to see he whole image as they are too long.

Thanks for the response, everyone. I'm just getting going with web design, so what may be second nature to some of you, is actually quite new to me.

It sounds like a width of 800 for my photos will find a good balance between the different resolutions. But its good to know that 77% of people are using a resolution 1024x768 or higher.

*thanks taquinade for the stats

I've just been through the same thing. Not just with photos, but with web design. After looking at the stats I decided to say "to hell with the 800 x 600 users". In a year they will all go the way of the dinosaurs anyway :)

I've chosen 750 pixels as the standard picture width in my blog.

Oh, and my resolution is 1280 x 1024
