Hi,
I have searched on this one, but could find no reference to the issue.
Is there a simple implementation (add-on, hack, etc) to put a transparent gif on top of the blog image, so that a right click and save would just save a transparent gif? chromasia (http://www.chromasia.com/iblog/) recently implemented it and I think it's a good way to deter image stealing. (yes, I realise he is not running pixelpost)...
so, this must be a reasonably common desire - to protect our images from common theft. I have noticed there are a few tea leaves (thieves) around in cyberspace...

sportsshooter.com uses a similar method, it only keeps those who have no knowledge from stealing the image, a little better than disabling right click in internet explorer...but it will help.
email chromasia, he is usually very helpful. or ask on the photoblogs.org email list even if anyone knows the best way to add this. i have never looked into it myself.

unfortunately this method will not help so much as all objects which are delivered by a webserver land in the cache of the visitor
so he can take it from there if he wants
this method which seems to use the original image as background-image and overlays it with a transparent gif is just a dummy-protection
if somebody really wants the image..

as always if someone wants it, they can get it...screen capture, cache, take a photo of the monitor...lol
we just simply cant offer a secure solution.

Yeah sure, I'm aware of all this, but think about it. It's not the people who REALLY want an image we need to stop, because as you clearly point out, we can't. But the CASUAL thief is a different story. They are not going to dig around in the cache, or even do a screen capture, because they are too lazy or ignorant. They're the one that the transparent gif is aimed at. David at chromasia is a very clever cookie, and I'm sure he realises exactly what he's doing, and who he's trying to stop. I'll email him. As you say, he is usually very helpful.
I'm not after a secure solution. If I was, I'd brand my images witha massive watermark, but that unfortunately has the unwanted side effect of ruining the picture... So, what do you want - a secure blog or nice pictures. The transparent gif however does offer a solution that I believe would knock out up to 70% of stealing.

djaef,
in combination with blocked hotlinking you might succeed to stop kiddies from stealing...
