Thank you. Let me know how everything works for you.

For those of us who use a stats program called MINT and have the pepper called PCP have seen something like this before.

PCP does not however distinguish between published and moderated comments as the PCP peppers development stopped before the release of pixelpost 1.5x

I plan to port the PCP pepper for MINT into a pixelpost admin addon so those of you who do not use MINT can see cool statistics like the rest of us :)

v0.2 is available for testing.

The addon is not done my all means but it's getting there.

before i release it publicly, i'd like to get a few people running the addon and letting me know if any bugs exist.

Private message me or post here and let me know if you'd like to test this and i'll send you a message with a link.

I tried your addon and it seems to work fine. But I cannot give very much information, because I have not much comments yet...

Two things to mention:
The name of your addon is a bit confusing, because there is a "advanced_stat.php" which comes with PP installation. Name of your "admin_adv_stat.php" is perhaps too similar, I suggest renaming it to "admin_comment_stat.php" or somewhat like that.

In line "Average published comments per person:" it says "1" here, but I have a few thousand visitors and exactly 7 comments. So rounding to ceiling is not very true when having low amount of total comments... Perhaps it would be better to show the "real" average which must be something like 0.000nnn

Thx for the idea

Yes, you are right and the final release will be changed.

Average published comments per person does not care how many visitors you have had. If you only have 7 comments then it saying 1 sounds about right.

Average published comments takes the total # of comments, in your case 7, and divides that by the total # of unique commenters (by name).

So what its doing is searching your database, pulling the total amount of comments out and dividing by the total amount of unique commenter names it also finds in your database.

So lets say you have 7 comments all by the same person, average published comments would say, 7.

My last answer was for 0.1
Now I installed 0.2 and it is looking very good.

I have 7 comments fom 6 different people. So 1 is almost right ;-)
It is a cool addon (at least for the ones with more comments than me... Comeon people, leave a few comments so I can say more about that ;-)))

Good work done, keep on! :)

Updates are on the way!

The next version will include a few new features.

The main feature will be language file support!
So far, the following languages will be included:

English (default)
German (Thanks Karin)
Dutch (Thanks Schonhose)
Polish (Thanks Geos)

If anyone wishes to translate an english language file to their language to include in the next release, please get in contact with me as soon as possible!

Also, you will be able to switch between relative date times like Yesterday, Last Week, ect to the actual date time of the comment.

Besides this, a few bug fixes will have been made.

If anyone would like to see something else included, please leave some feedback!

Thankyou for the feedback everyone!

It's nice to know my work is appreciated.

I already started on the next version which will address a few optimization issues and change the way the rss function works so it will be easier to share your comment feed with your viewers. I might even move the comment rss into its own addon.

Besides that, I might add search capabilities so you can search for a commenter by name (maybe IP too).

If there is anything else you can think of that will improve this addon, please share it with me. I'm running out of ideas :p

Love this addon. Thanks

I was wondering if maybe the next release can recognize IPs as a single user or have the option of doing so (incase you get different commenters from same IP).

The problem is that if a commenter doesn't enter their name properly they get ranked separately. One commenter I have tends to mix their upper/lowercase characters and I have another that slightly alters their name once and a while.

thanks

This is a good point and it has not been overlooked.

Thanks for the feedback.

I will certainly fix the name case problem in the next version and I'll see what other verifications can be made if any.

I have no dedicated IP (like most people in internet).
So if I do comments on different days it is very likely I never have the same IP adress.
The other way round many people use "my" IP adress because my phone provider is one of the biggest in Germany...

Dave, if you plan to do such a thing (what would be nice), you should consider some sort of a scoring system (similar to spam scoring) consisting of name, email, URI, user agent and IP for finding out identical persons. But I am afraid that would slow down the whole thing in a horrible way :-(

Yes Karin. I am aware of the IP problem. That is why I did not choose to verify by IP.

It would be more accurate if I was able to verify against Name and Email but pixelpost only requires a name and comment to be filled in for submission.

I'll think about this more and I'm sure I'll come up with something :)

Ok, I have a little bit of time to work on this.

A users name is not case sensitive. So, for example, Dwlinkinsjr, dwilkinsjr, DwIlkiNsJR, etc will all be counted as the same person as long as there are no spaces within the name like dwilkins JR.

Also, can you give me an example of how some of your commenters alter their name from time to time?

Verifying by IP is useless as IP's are rarely static and adding an alternative check is useless unless your commenters enter in all info like email and url when making a comment.

I could write some code where you can append 2 commenters as 1 but this will require some time and most likely won't be included in the next version.

Yeah, great addon, thanks. Any way of obtaining tags that allow me to display commenters' stats in a template? Like, top 25 commenters' names, and most commented-on images?

Or if anyone knows of an addon that allows this?

boje

Though, it would be wicked if this addon could provide such tags, I reckon.

...users name is not case sensitive... Also, can you give me an example of how some of your commenters alter their name from time to time?
Sorry, my mistake. They would misspell their name, not just a different case (FLAVOR OF THE MINUTE, Flavour of the Minute). But I do have one commenter who changes their comment often depending on the content of my post (The Old Fart, The Dirty Old Fart, The Crazy Fart). Yes I have quite the eclectic audience!

I could write some code where you can append 2 commenters as 1...

Yes, I think this would be a great idea and the way to solve this.

Another suggestion...perhaps you can work with the Image Statistics Addon as well as the Comments section in Admin? Just an Idea. I really like this addon as is but I see a lot of potential. Thanks for the hard work.

A few observations about how this addon is working with v1.6beta:

1. In 1.5, the link for the comment stats was in the main menu at the top:
General Info -- AddOns -- Stats -- Image-Stats -- Logout

In v1.6beta, the link to the comment stats doesn't show up in the main menu at the top - you have to click General Info, and then it shows up in the submenu:
General -- Stats

Just wondering why this is happening? I installed the addon, then couldn't find it in the normal place I was used to looking for it.

2. The css in admin_comment_stat.php needs to be updated to match the new admin style in v1.6beta:

<style type=\"text/css\">
.apcsTable {
border-top: 1px dashed #ccc;
border-bottom: 1px dashed #ccc;
}

.apcsTableTop {
border-top: 1px dashed #ccc;
}

.apcsTableTopUnPub {
border-top: 1px dashed #ccc;
background-color: #fff;
}

.apcsTableBtm {
border-bottom: 1px dashed #ccc;
}

.apcsIMG {
border: 1px solid #000;
margin: 9px 2px 9px 0px;
height: 45px;
}

.apcsCaption {
border-top: 1px solid #ccc;
border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc;
margin: 0 0;
padding: 3px 0 3px 10px;
font-family: Helvetica, verdana, sans-serif;
font-size: 12px;
font-weight: bold;
letter-spacing: 1px;
color: #666;
background: url('img/back1.gif') repeat-x;
}

.submenu {
border-bottom: 1px solid #ccc;
border-top: 1px solid #ccc;
padding-top: 5px;
padding-bottom: 5px;
background-color: #fff;
color: #333;
font-weight: normal;
font-size: 10px;
margin: 10px auto;
text-align: center;
}

.submenu a {
padding: 5px;
}

.submenu a:hover {
background-color: #f4f4f4;
color: #666;
}
</style>
<!-- END AUTO GENERATED BY ADVANCED PIXELPOST COMMENT STATISTICS -->

3. When I click on RSS Feed, I am getting a page that displays the following error:

XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://www.kpdesign.net/blog16/admin/index.php?view=info&infoview=stats&rssview=newestrss
Line Number 1, Column 1:

Any ideas on what's causing this issue?

-------------------------------------------

Other than the above issues, this addon seems to be working alright with the new PP version. :)

Basically I'm to blame for that. Since it is general info we think this is a better place for such addons. We couldn't place it there under 1.5 so we used the old way.

If I get my way the addon_description var is only for a small description and all addon options should be under options.

As Dennis explained, I moved the menu item to the info page for 1.6 as this is technically where it should be.

There was no option to place it there using pixelpost v1.5 so for 1.6 i made sure it went into the new info workspace.

And I know about the CSS issue. Sorry, I just have not had time to update it yet.

As for the comment RSS not working, I'll have to take a look into this further. It could be due to a number of things. It most likely has to do with a comment containing a special character that for whatever reason is not being escaped.

Just for kicks, can you send me a copy of the comment stats addon you are using? PM me for my email or if you can host it on your website somewhere as a zip or change the php extension to phps.

Thanks.

I will be releasing v1.01 as soon as i can clear up your RSS issue.

It seems like the comment rss produces an error when no comments are present.

Thats my fault.

I made a test comment and it is working as it should now.

Anyway, the comment rss function will not be available is the next release as pixelpost will have this built in.

Create a new template file and save it as (anything)_template.html and upload it to your current template folder.

Then you can access the template by visiting your site:

http://example.com/pixelpost/index.php?x=(anything)

You were saying that there can be an automated thank you message sent to commenters... would you explain how I can enable that feature?
Thank you
Titus

It's not automated per-say. If you click on their email link, it will open your mail program with a pre-defined message all filled out. you must hit the send button. I never got as far as to make it "automated" via php. someday soon i'd like to revamp this addon.
