Ok, I know how to use search, and I tried it countless time. I see there are a few topics that deal with both chmod and windows problems, but I have yet to find one that will tell me how to fix my issue.
Here's some info that might help.
I have a home-built win 2k sever.
Everything dealing with it is done IN HOUSE. (meaning my fiance and I do it ourselves)
I have the DB set up, I have all of the files in the proper locations, I have followed everything to the letter....BUT
My problem is this:
I cannot get chmod permissions changed.
I was told you cannot change them on windows, but I know better, and I've found google groups dealing with the subject where people much more experienced than myself say it CAN be done.
My question is HOW??? *sigh* I'm lost. I have only set chmod via wsftp before and at that time it was all on an outside host. It doesn't seem to work on our server using this method.
Here is the general info I have been given after set up:

I hope all of this helps someone enough to help me get this small problem fixed soon. I'm really enjoying the photoblogs I've seen and can't wait to use this myself.
Many thanks for any help.

Your images and thumbnails folder is writable already, which as it says, is a good thing. Sorry I cant help you more, I am familier with WS_FTP, but not home based servers...

I see that it says they are writable, but nothing is uploading.
I checked the chmod via ftp and sure enough.....they aren't 777.
Like I said, I can't change them via ftp either. :(
Thanks for the replies anyway.

I'm not much of an ISS guru, but you need to set the security on the folders. To do this, right click on a folder, select properties, then select the security tab (if it is not there, I can't help you). Then add the user Everyone (or maybe your iis user whatever that is which is more secure) and give them modify, read, list and write permissions.
Hope that helps, but it depends on how the security is set up on your windows box and I am more of a Linux guy :(

I just bugged my fiance until he gave up the info I needed. Seems the only thing we can do is manually go into the files via the server itself and adjust permissions that way.
*grumble*
Thank you all very much for taking stabs anyway.

I also had problems with permissions and NT. It keeps resetting permissions... I've now moved to a (hosted) unix server and no problems.
Have you thought about running linix/freebsd and apache on that box? You could make it dual boot so as to keep the NT partition. You'd probably get better performance out of it too.

:?:I'll second that :D I get great performance out of an old PII 233 running about 10 websites and seeing thousands of visits a day.

I've thought of that. A friend even recommended that once. It's just not entirely up to me. :?
Since I do more of the design/layout side of things and my other half plays with the server side aspects, it's really up to him to use whatever he feels more comfortable working with. (And I think he's rather hard core about not having to learn anymore unix/linux/etc. stuff than he had to in college. LoL )
It seems to be working now, though. It's just a pain to have to wait for him to get INTO the server itself to set up permissions and other bits of this for me.
Maybe this is my incentive to finish MY server "training" as well! *chuckle*
I've moved on to playing (fighting :-p) with templates, addons, and mods. So.....off to the search function I go once more! Weeeee! LoL
Thanks again for all the help and advice here. 8)
Sounds like a match made in heaven. Probably best to keep the status quo... or buy another box

Heaven? Hmmm sometimes it feels more like that other place, LoL! (j/k, kinda ha) but yeah, we're keeping this one set up the way it is.
We have two others that run other various things for us so if I wanted to rip into something for upgrades oe pure fun *grin* I would likely use one of those.
