View Full Version : CAPTCHA
I've installed CAPTCHA on pp1.5
But it didn't work on 1.6.0 coz the hacked files cannot use.
Anyone have an idea about installation of CAPTCHA on pp1.6.0?
Many Thanks in advance.

why do you need captcha? Check out what we have implemented in 1.6. It will work quite nicely.

akismet do sometimes mark "good" comments as spam. if you get another 300 real spam, then you'll get a hard job to sort the good comments out of spam.
mark as ham don't work 100%. I had the same visitor blocked often.
in such cases I think, captcha is a fine tool.
akismet has updated their module, so let's hope that it will work better now.
the implementation of dsbl is a fine thing :)
schonhose: Thanks for your reply.
I've enabled token system in the comment section and the akismet system.
Just like Vernon.Trent said, akismet can filter the comments and mark those spam comments but it do sometimes make mistakes. it dont work perfectly.
But with CAPTCHA, all the spams have no chance to get into your database. :)

With the token enabled you will get around 75% less spam. Combine this with the fine tuning of the number of urls allowed and other stuff you will get around 90-95% less spam.
Some info by my log:
This log has been started on 29-Dec-2006 @ 00:00 (keeping track of SPAM for approximately 108 days).
During that time a total of 1549 comments have been blocked. Currently 97.8% of all comments have been classified as SPAM.
There are 10 comments present in the database after the installation of the spamlog. This means you have received 26 additional spam messages (including the AKISMET marked comments) over the last 108 days.
Many thanks!
With token and akismet on for half a day, I still got 10 spam comments with 2 spams classified as "good" comments. This result is much better than the performance of akisment in my blog (running wordpress).
I think you guys really did a great job. :)
However, I dont want to see any spam on my site. at this stage, CAPTCHA can fit my requirement though it is not the best method.
I just released an updated version of CAPTCHA (http://forum.pixelpost.org/showthread.php?t=6459) addon based on other's work. Hope someone will like to see it.
