if there is enough interest, I'll clean this up and make it available to the general public... it's finished basically... except for styling the pop-up commenting which will be available from the info slide-out.

The key to the design is (as usual) keeping it simple.

Let me know what you think.

and by the way, it'll be called MUTT, since it's really a collection of different ideas from some of my favorite designs.... pixelpost or not.

Very nice work. I think the community would definitely be interested in your MUTT. I am.

My only suggestions for improvement, the javascript slide in for the information is a little slow and jumps. Fix that and make sure the dark theme applies to sub pages as well, and I think you've got a winner.

I like the design a lot, very clean.

There are a couple of things that I would change, but that's just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth.

* I would have the same (or very similar) navigation on each page.
The home page is good, but on the browse & about pages it disappears.

* I would tweak the info expand animation a bit, as it expands width wise and makes the page looks really weird. (Why not just make it expand hight-wise, not width wise)

* And lastly, I would make the overlay arrows less obvious, right now they are pretty "in your face" and distract a lot from the photos.

Well, those are my thoughts. Hopefully you find them helpful.

Great job!

thanks for the input!

Yeah, I'm very aware of the choppy animation, which started when I put the thumbs next to the image instead of below it. Even if I make the thumbs static, it's still choppy.

I'm not aware of any horizontal expansion. On Safari and IE7 it expands only vertical. A screenshot would be helpful if you don't mind.

I agree... nav should be consistent across all pages. Good point.

As far as the overlays go, almost everyone I've asked that isn't a photoblog user / viewer, doesn't realize they can over over the image and navigate believe it or not. I kinda like them in your face when you want them to be.

Hum, I can't seem to recreate the horizontal bug I saw in Firefox. Maybe it was just some strange fluke?

that is a great template - i really like how you have the thumbs on the side that go from shaded to bright on a rollover. and that photo titled 'Looking' is a fantastic shot.

Ok, so the Image title and description are doing new and exciting things... reload my site and you'll see that the info is an overlay over the image... with a slightly opaque background.

What do ya think?

BTW - in the slide-out is where the comments link will go... IF this becomes a template. If it doesn't, I have no need for comments so they won't be used on my own site.

Why don't you put directly comment available when you click on info button ?
Anyway , i'll be very interested in too !

The improvements that you have made to this template really make it work well.
How well does the image info overlay work for other sized photos?
e.g. portrait rather than landscape.

I just added a vertical image. Take a look. Getting very close to done... then just need to clean things up and will formalize a template package for all to play with.

now that all the tweaking's done, I'm gonna clean up the code and release this template. Expect to see this available before the end of the day this Saturday. In keeping with my domain name of Sotolicious, the template will be officially called Delicious.

Thanks all to your input / comments - on this forum and via e-mail. Though this template isn't nothing groundbreaking, to some, I think it's a fresh look for the simple minds.

Where do I go to make this an official template in the developer area?

Sorry folks about the delay... I have every intention of making the template available, just ran into a few bugs while beta testing with a fellow pixelpost user here on the boards... and I wanted to add some comments to the code to make customization a little more obvious.

I'll have it up tonight, I think...

it'll be worth the wait...

I've been unhappy with the layout of the details slide-out and found a solution. Keep the form hidden until someone's interested in adding a comment... kinda pop-up like-ish thinking.

Reload my site and check out the details... it's subtle... but when you click add a comment, the form slides in and the comments slide out.... i think it's a very effective way of keeping things clean. I'm also not happy with the top right menus... CSS related... so that needs a little cleaning up... with a clearer way to filter for tags, etc.

whatcha think?

Very nice, that comment solution, keeps indeed the stuff clean!
2 bad we'll have to wait some more, but just like you said, it'll be worth the waiting... im sure of that. What did ya had in mind with the top-right menu?!
keep us up-to-date !

Hi there!

Some really cool stuff is going on here!

First of all.. I really like the new top background. It gives the site a bit grungy look and that's the way I like it. Good=)

Well.. about the way how the comments slides-out when you wanna write a message.. This is a very stylish and great solution. It is usefull and clean, great. This effect gives the site a bit more flashy look. Clean, dynamic and stylish.

I know a lot of people who are pressing F5 in this topic, hahaha!! (me 2 by the way). Hope to see this template soon available for the public.

GREAT WORK DUDE=)
