Hello all-

Long time since I logged into Pixelpost forums, but I noticed I always had this problem since I started using PixelPost from day one.

but my website http://www.photokit.net is taking I mean 10 secs to start even loading the next page after I click it.

When it does finally start loading the page though, it downloads the images just fine.

It's just the initial connection when you go to my website that seems to take the longest time wasted.

Has anyoen had this problem before? I'm not sure what to think, but my hosting is with 1and1.com and I have the Professional Linux package, so that may/may not be a factor.

Thanks in advance,
Wilson

Well, considering that there are thousands of pixelpost users and you might be the 3rd I know of that experiences extremely slow load times, I'm going to say it's most likely your host unfortunately.

I clicked your link and waited well over 10 seconds for your page to load.

If I were you, I'd get in contact with your hosting provider and get to the bottom of the issue asap. If I went to your site (not knowing about the issue), I'm not sure I would have waited for the initial page to even load. I probably would have thought it was a bad link and moved on.

And even if I did wait, the load times between pictures would have been enough for me to leave after viewing only a few of your photos.

The truth is, most people do not want to wait for content to load these days. With high speed connections and capable computers, people want to see the content their looking for immediately.

I'd have to imagine that by having your content not load swiftly, you're photos are not being seen by as many people as they should.

I looks more like a network issue to me.
While trying to do a traceroute it took forever.

Maybe one of the main internet routers is offline, or maybe 1 and 1 is experiencing too much traffic for their network to handle.

That would be my guess.

Thanks guys for chiming in..

I emailed 1and1 about the slow response to my website and told them MySQL is extremely slow, and here is there response..

With regards to this site since this is a database driven site we cannot
assure the full speed of the site. A databased driven site is not
guranteed in 1&1 the speed will go faster.

I'm not really satisfied with there response... I have seen other people's PixelPost gallery be as speedy as bee..

So I decided to create a new Database with Pixelpost 1.6 (as a fresh install)

The site is here http://s89988123.onlinehome.us/pixelpost/pixelpost_v1.6.0/ and it is a bit better...

Im using MySQL 4.0.21 and PHP4 from 1and1... Should I be using version 5 instead?

What do you guys think should be a next step? Should I switch to another provider like dreamhost or what?

I had a free website with 1and1 for three years. While I had it, the only thing I ever used it for was storing images that got posted in high-traffic forums. For websites that I actually cared about, I paid for hosting elsewhere. There are plenty of inexpensive hosts out there that are better than 1and1. Make sure check out any host before signing up. Google the host's name followed by the word sucks (i.e. 1and1 sucks). Test out their support call, email, or IM.chat them to see how they respond.

Yes, it is 1and1 host, loading speed has been satisfactory sometimes but mainly it's slow to very slow. I also have Godaddy and another third host (Arvixe) and they both load fast.

Just the other day, I was thinking of canceling 1and1 hosting for this reason.

GoDaddy (http://godaddy.com) is pretty good, Eleven2 (http://www.eleven2.com/) just had a sale for Pixelpost users. I'm not sure if it's still going on but you can check them out too. I've never used them but they host pixelpost.org and i've seen no problems yet.

I recently moved my photoblog to Eleven2, and things are running pretty smooth for me. You might check them out!
