Hi,
My images apear to be quite fuzzy, with a lot of pixel degradation. I have set the quiality to 100 in the admin options section yet they still appear to be quite poor quality. Take a look:

Any ideas?

Tom

I've got FF, 1280x1024 and dont see any problem. Quality of image depends from pic which you are uploading through admin panel. Only thumbs are generated by PP.

PS Is this topic a "blog URL spam" tring to rise count of site visitors??

lol. paranoia! i don't think anybody is quite that sad! are they?

actually, i've been having the same problem for a while

i thought i was being paranoid at first, but then i compared photos posted to my photoblog via pixelpost with images i uploaded directly to a directory on my server, and i did notice a slight degradation and fuzziness on my pixelpost uploaded images. i set the image quality to 100 (max quality - no loss) and i still notice the difference

to see what i'm talking about, compare the image i uploaded to my photoblog via pixelpost:
picture uploaded through pixelpost (http://www.gracepapaya.com/photoblog/index.php?showimage=105)

with the image i uploaded directly to a folder on my server:
same exact picture uploaded directly to a folder on my server (http://www.gracepapaya.com/photoblog/blah/target_letters.jpg)

if you look closely, there is a fuzziness to the picture on my photoblog. look at the photos closely. if you guys don't see it, let me know, and i could upload other pictures for comparison.

i'm glad someone else mentioned this. i seriously thought i was going crazy that i was the only one that noticed this.

is there a fix to this? something to tweak in the code? a value of some sort?

i dont see the differences , but background makes slight differences in the process of seeing a image(try with grey and white background), try to see two images in same background .

Main difference is in filesize. On blog is 77 KB and normally more then 400 KB.

You must wait for answer from one of specialists from this part of code :P

well at least photos load quicker that way!

ah i knew i wasn't being paranoid. i guess i figured that with my jpg compression value set to 100 that there would be no compression. but there is a significant difference in file sizes between those two files and others i've compared. i realize that this does enable the images to load faster and while i do love that, it's the fact that my ages aren't that great to begin with since i'm only shooting from a lowly canon powershot a85. so when they're compressed even further, i can notice the degradation

i'm eager to hear a response from the pixelpost experts as to the mechanics behind this and if there's a way around it. thanks again everyone for your responses

Pixelpost does not modify or compress the image in any way, it just uploads it. The image compression is for the thumbnails only.

The images are different, but one is obviously compressed more, but pixelpost didn't do it unless there is code I don't know about. I doubt that it is the same image. Did you upload a version with higher compression to pixelpost?

commando is right, pixelpost did not alter your photo in any way

how are you saving these after editing them?

Maybe you put some addon which compress your photos??

i have been racking my brain trying to figure this out

i'll resize and image and save it (i do my post processing in photoshop - i've tried "saving as" and "save for web", and both yield the same weird results), noting the file size, say about 400 kb. then i'll upload it through pixelpost and look at the resulting image on my photoblog, and it'll be like 70 kb instead, not the original 400 kb. something is going on and i can't figure out what it is.

the addons i have installed are calendar, grablinks, visits_today, archivecalendar, stats, photostats, current_datetime, and copy_folder. from what i know, none of these will affect the image being compressed upon uploading it to pixelpost. could there be something going on in the index.php portion of the admin panel that i'm not aware of?

i cannot figure this out, ahhhhh

Oryginal PP don't do anything with photos. As you upload 400 KB file there should be 400 KB file. Only thumbs can have less!

Can you give us link to your pblog or better stand up new installation. Then on PM give test account data & we will see where is a problem.

i was thinking of setting up a new 1.3 pixelpost photoblog just to see what was going on but kinda wanted to avoid that route, but if you guys think that it would help in troubleshooting this matter, i'll definitely do it. though i can't get to it till later on. you guys can take a look at my photoblog. it's at http://www.gracepapaya.com/photoblog

in the meantime, if you guys wanna get in the backend, i can supply the admin userid and password. who would i send that information to? any resident techies or troubleshooters around?

We must place offical data on main page who can have access as tech support from PP. After that you'll be able to PM this person with pass & login.

offering fulltime support like that is hard to do...personal request like that must be out of a kind good hear to help for now...

as for the blog's photos, I still don't see anything wrong

Not full time support, but support if some of developers help free time.

This list should be from security reasons. It isn't good idea to give login & pass person who you can't trust.

I think you see a problem where there isn't one....
I did chech your site, your picture 'graffit_noho_wall.jpg' is a 56k file when you check it 'closed' but if you open it with PS you'll see that is a 791k file, there is nothing wrong with that, simply is how thing work and do not affect the 'quality' of the image.
I've been teaching photoshop since PS 1.1 and this is a top FAQ, but not a problem. I'd like to advice you to use at least 100 pixel for your pictures, 72 is not good enough.

Regards.

One more time - that isn't caused by main PixelPost code. It can be done only by some hack or addon!!!
Do backup of current PP enviroment. Then delete all, put oryginal 1.4 PP and at the end upload your templates.

After that there shouldn't be such effect!!
