I'm using pixelpost 1.4.2. Today my site disappeared. I see that everything is on the server, but can't see it on the site. Host (one of the bests in my country) said they have updated the server (apache) and this is probably causing the issue. Something on my version of pixelpost and their update is not matching... (is this fixable and what's causing it?)

I would not like to upgrade. But i guess i have to....
If i load all new pixelpost-files to server, what happens to my old images and thumbnails-folders (full of images)?
I suppose they are written over and during installation photos are loaded from the database again? Right??
I have no knowledge on how to backup database. So i just have to trust that my photos stay peacefully on database during upgrade....

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, we no longer support version 1.4.x so unless you can figure it out, you're going to have to upgrade. Honestly, you're missing out if you do not upgrade!

As for upgrading, DO NOT erase / delete / overwrite the images and thumbnails folder! If you delete / overwrite these folders, your images will be gone forever. The database does not store the images!

I strongly suggest backing up everything, your database, images, thumbnails, files, etc.

There are plenty of guides online and your hosting provider should also have a how to guide on backing up databases. You'll thank yourself later if something does go wrong. Also, make sure you backup any altered templates and language files. You will have to re-apply any changes made in the 1.4 files to the new files.

With those warnings in place,

Download the latest pixelpost release and read the upgrade procedure, http://www.pixelpost.org/docs/GettingStarted/Upgrade#v3 Make sure you are reading " Upgrade from Version 1.4 or 1.5 to 1.6"

Also, just in case, upload all the new files and folders except the images and thumbnails folder so you know they will not be overwritten.

If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks a lot! I will upgrade this weekend. I let you know how i managed... or if i managed...
I think i copy the images & thumbnail folders to another location on server. Luckily i have all photos on my computer & on dvd:s. So nothing really bad can't happen.
That images are not on database.. that was new to me!

The image file names, title names, descriptions, exif info, etc is stored in the database. Your image files are not. The image files are stored in the images and thumbnails folder.

Let us know how everything goes. If anything does go wrong you'll hopefully have a full backup

Host asked if pixelpost requires register_globals to be set ON?
Dont know what they are...

no, it might be an addon which is incompatible. To what version did you upgrade?

1.7 or 1.6?

To version 1.6.0.
What could be wrong?

try turn off all addons and see if it is working then.
If yes, turn them on again one by one and find the one that makes Pixelpost crash

How (or in which file?) do i turn off addons? I don't see any possibilities to do that in admin section.

in the Admin panel is the menu item "Addons".
Look here for more information: http://www.pixelpost.org/docs/AdminPanel/Addons
(it is for v1.7 already but only the colour code and the alphabetic order is new)

Well, i can't make the paged archive work anymore. It's installed, but all the thumbs of one category come to one page. It's not nice to have 200 (large) thumbs on one page... or all the 600 thumbs on same page.

This is what i have on browse template:

<CATEGORY_LINKS_AS_LIST>
<CATEGORY_OR_DATE_NAME_PAGED_ARCHIVE><br>
<ARCHIVE_PAGES_NUM><br>
<THUMBNAILS_WHOLE_PAGED><br>
<THUMBNAILS_PAGES_LINKS><br>

Make sure the addon is turned ON. Even though it's installed, it can be turned OFF and if it is turned OFF the addon will not work.

Can you provide us with a link to your pixelpost photoblog?

Yep, it's on.

http://www.willipikseli.fi/kuvausta/

Paged archive works now on all photos (but not in categories) if you come from index- or about - page. Cause i changed this
<a href="<SITE_BROWSELINK>" title="Browse">Browse</a> to this
<a href="index.php?x=browse&pagenum=1">Archive</a> |

OK, well you will need to use one of the paged archive template tags that replaces the standard browse drop down box. Here is a list of available tags, http://www.pixelpost.org/docs/TemplateTags/PagedArchiveAddonTags

What tag shoud i use and should i put it on browse page? I've tried quite many, but i just don't figure out what gives the paged archive for categories.

Also another thing occurred... pixelpost doesn't recognize scandinavian letters in comments. My previous version made them all ok.

this is the link (href part) to the paged archive (in image or about page): <SITE_BROWSELINK_PAGED>
this is the full link to paged archive: <LINK_TO_PAGED_ARCHIVE>
use this for the link to the archive page for the category of the actual image (on image page): <IMAGE_CATEGORY_PAGED>
this is the list of available categories with link (in browse page): <CATEGORY_LINKS_AS_LIST_PAGED>
and this is the available categories as drop-down (in image and archive page): <BROWSE_CATEGORIES_PAGED>

complete documentation on each tag is available from the page Dave supplied

Thanks again! I finally managed to make a paged archive!

Scandinavian characters (ä, ö) are not showing right in earlier posts. Tested today and new posts are ok, but not the ones that were written during earlier pixelpost version.
Any ideas what i can do to fix this?
