As usual, great job! It looks pretty good.

I have a suggestion though... Can the thumbnails be used in this manner (http://www.ndesign-studio.com/demo/css-dock-menu/css-dock.html)? I found that pretty interresting and I thought it might look good. :D

since you asked :)

it is possible and I just might make it a version... check it out here... still tweaking alignment, CSS and stuff but getting pixelpost's thumbnails to mimmick Apple's dock is totally feasible!!!

thanks for the suggestion...

what a great job! wow! i´m not shure, if i can install this one - tried to update pp running with 1.6 to 1.7 and it killed something in my delicious 1.1 installation. main image and thumbs stick to the left site and the fresh, about, archive-texts are alone on the right - after a few days of testing, not understanding, why and recovering (a friend of mine has knowledge of these things ) it seems that i can´t do anything than staying with pp 1.6 ;o(

Pixelpost v1.7.1 has no effect on your template files unless a template tag that is used within your template has changed.

But, I can assure you this is not the case.

Many have upgraded to 1.7.1 without issue while using the delicious template. I see no reason why you should be experiencing the difficulties you describe.

I upgraded to 1.7 last night and no issues with Simplicious or Delicious... so yeah, it's unrelated to your template... if you have a back-up or your template, you might want to try overwriting your server version and see if that helps.

thanks dwilkinsjr for your offer ;) - i updated yesterday to 1.7 again, runnig now the simplicious template and nearly everything works fine (except those spams on images which are no more in the blog or the database- i´ll head for another entry in another section here). and as i like the simplicious template more than the old one - it´s now all fine.

@ jay: thanks for doing such a great template! some category-stuff in the archives would be fine (see http://www.fischimglas.de/index.php?x=browse) - but moreover you´re doing a great job! i´m lookin forward on what comes next ;o)

thanks erveryone!

hey, awesome template. I have a big question though. How do you make it so the first image in the set comes up first and the images go in the correct way when you scroll through them. Because it looks silly to have the thumbnails lined up and then have to press the back arrow on the picture to scroll "forward" through the images. Any help switching this around to the correct way would be great. Thanks.

they're definitely there in Safari... IE7 has a little bug I see... just a small part of the bottom of the overlay isn't covering the photo... nothing a little CSS tweak can't fix.

you lost me here... it seems right to me... can you elaborate a little more?

hhmmmm... on second thought... maybe I know what you're asking... if you click the right arrow, the thumnails go the opposite way? If so, yeah that is dumb... and I didn't notice... you just have to...

remove...

_REV

from the...

<IMAGE_THUMBNAIL_ROW_REV>

tag down toward the end of the image_template.html file.

I'll fix this in the download package and upload at the same version level

thanks for spotting this...

Great template!

A little bug in IE7: after opening/closing "comments" the thumbnails "jumps" from their position to the center (http://www.onephoto.ru/images/bug1.jpg). After mouse moving all becomes okay.

awesome thanks for the help with the thumbnails going backwards. one more question, how do you get it to default to open the first image uploaded instead of the lastest? That way they can scroll through the gallery from start to finish.

shutterhead
01-21-2008, 07:06 PM
to change the order of appearance, the easy way is in PP1.7.

and is changed under

Options... General... Image Display Order... Date and Time for the Entry... <!--set to-->... Ascending Order

But honestly, most people that go to your site are repeat visitors so making them weed through the stuff they've already seen is kinda a waste of time.

It becomes black only in one moment - when you open/close "comments" window but not move mouse from "comments" word. Only in IE7.

I see it now... yeah... as soon as you move the mouse the black goes away and the thumbs bounce back to the right... I think I know what's doing that so it should be an easy fix.

I recently upgraded from 1.6, which seems to have broken both my thumbnails and prev/next overlay (the browsing() function). I've also installed simplicious, but those overlays are broken as well, although the thumbnails work.

I show no exceptions in the script using FireBug.

Does anyone know a solution? ..before I spend more time trying to figure out what went wrong.

All addons disabled.

Thanks, and fantastic work with the templates. Too bad I can't get them working :(

It should also be nice if the template was XHTML compliant. I tried to fix the image_template, and almost succeeded. But I encountered a XHTML compliancy problem in the Java browsing function part, the </a> tag. Maybe there is a solution for this.

<script type="text/javascript">
function browsing(){
var existprev = "<IMAGE_PREVIOUS_ID>";
var existnext = "<IMAGE_NEXT_ID>";
if (existprev != "<IMAGE_ID>"){
document.write('<a href="#" id="menu_browse_prev" onclick="document.location=\'index.php?showimage=<IMAGE_PREVIOUS_ID>\';"></a>');
}
if (existnext != "<IMAGE_ID>"){
document.write('<a href="#" id="menu_browse_next" onclick="document.location=\'index.php?showimage=<IMAGE_NEXT_ID>\';"></a>');
}
}
</script>

Hey, very well done Jay! As i said in the email, i searched for such a template a long time. Thank you for sharing it with us! I customized it a little bit and made the xhtml valid (transitional).
Are there any plans to make the template div-based?

Keep on working, and if you need some helping hands, don't hesitate to contact me.

Hello,

First things first I love this template and minus a simple navigational challenge I've not had a bit of difficulty with it.

I was wondering if you could help me with some testing. I've only uploaded a few pictures for test, but when I am on my most current pic and I want to navigate to the next the arrow shows up as if I were going forward instead of backward. Any advice on how to change that around so it works as if you were navigating backwards through existing photos?

Thanks,

Nick

I really love this template!
The only thing I'm dealing with, is the number of thumbs to display. I wanted to fill the whole width of the image with thumbs, so I set the amount of thumbs to 19.
But, as you can see here (http://www.blauwgestreept.nl/index.php?showimage=20), it displays (off course) two rows of thumbs when viewing portrait pictures.

Is there a way to tell PP to show a different amount of thumbs for different picture-sizes? Or should I just stop shooting in portrait mode? ;)

trcharlie
01-31-2008, 09:48 AM
well, you could write an addonfor PP to display a different number of thumbs for eacht picture width. but I don't think this is good usability. did you think about having all the same width? e.g. portraits in 600x900px, and landscapes in 600x400px

Tiestoo
01-31-2008, 10:35 AM
Yeah, I thought about that, but the images are to big then @ 1024x768. I don't want my visitors to scroll down for 1 minute if they want to see the whole image...

by the way: does the hover-effect (on thumbnails) work in IE7? I can only test it in IE6 here, and that doesn't work...

Is it possible to have a way to browse categories in the archives?
For your testing mac dock ver, is it possible to have an option whereby the pic the mouse hovers on to be "highlighted" and the rest darkened instead?

Hi Jay,

First of all, congratulations for your job on PP templates.

I have noticed a small bug on simplicious 0.1b with IE7 (OK with Firefox): on the "fresh" but also on the "archive" view, a tiny additional row is added under the current picture (for fresh) and under the archives thumbnails table (for archives).

Would be sort-of nice if this tiny row was also above the table, but it is only below, so just looks like a genuine bug :P

Cheers,
Wax.

First of all : thanks for this beautiful template... Great job done. I love it!
I just have a small question to ask :
I made some minors changes in the template in order to put my "little" signature on it. In the browse_template.php, the pictures appear as squared even if they aren't squared. I just would like ton know if you think that it will be possible to keep the ratio of original pictures : they will be resized with a fixed height but with variable length (according to the original size of the picture)?
I have small knowledge in xhtml/css and php. Nothing in javascript!
Do you think that can be easily done?

dr_optical: you can modify this in the arrows.psd (Photoshop file) that Shutterhead provided within his template. Here you can change the opacity of the different layers, then save it as a PNG and then upload the file again.

Further to the problem above, I was doing some experimenting and have found that if you go http://thefieryscotsman.com the sliding box for the comments works but not with http://www.thefieryscotsman.com, also when I added the line 'RewriteEngine on' in the dot htaccess file all attemps to reach http://thefieryscotsman.com resulted in a search engine listing several possible sites.

So I think the proble with the 'www' version is down to something in my dot htaccess file.

This is currently what is there.........

#RewriteEngine on
#RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^thefieryscotsman.com$ [OR]
#RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www.thefieryscotsman.com$
#RewriteRule ^/?$ http://www.thefieryscotsman.com [R=301,L]

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond % ^thefieryscotsman\.com [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.thefieryscotsman.com/$1 [L,R=301]

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www.thefieryscotsman.com [NC]
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.thefieryscotsman.com.com/$1 [R=301,L]

All I want is that all calls to the www and non-www versions are directed to the same page, the www version.

I wanted the navigation overlay arrow to match Delicious so I copied and replaced the files and now I get this. http://www.photokinesis.com/ebay/Arrow.jpg Any suggestions?

In light.css and dark.css files from the template search for:

#menu_browse_prev:hover, #menu_browse_prev:visited:hover

and

#menu_browse_next:hover, #menu_browse_next:visited:hover
and replace each block with this, accordind to each file:

light.css:
#menu_browse_prev:hover, #menu_browse_prev:visited:hover {
background: url('../images/light/prev_btn.png') center center;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
cursor: pointer;
}

#menu_browse_next:hover, #menu_browse_next:visited:hover {
background: url('../images/light/next_btn.png') center center;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
cursor: pointer;
}

dark.css:
#menu_browse_prev:hover, #menu_browse_prev:visited:hover {
background: url('../images/dark/prev_btn.png') center center;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
cursor: pointer;
}

#menu_browse_next:hover, #menu_browse_next:visited:hover {
background: url('../images/dark/next_btn.png') center center;
background-repeat: no-repeat;
cursor: pointer;
}

PS. Make sure the path to each arrow image is correct (i mean url('../images/dark/next_btn.png').

Hi to all,

I am a new user of Pixelpost and been using Simplicious Templates. This is a very good one and I'm using it right now. I have a question though regarding to its features.

Can anyone tell me how to add or to display the number of Comments into its photo? And one thing more, if I'm browsing my gallery and using my laptop the comments popup is doing good in Mozilla and IE but in my Desktop/PC the popup wont appear? I've been using different Security Suite, do you think it just because of those Anti-Something?

Here's the link: http://www.jamirdesign.com/photogallery/index.php?showimage=20 of the photos that have a comment.

Thanks guys in advance and more power to all of us.

For comments number edit templates/simplicious/image_template.html and search in the file for

Comments</a>

and insert <IMAGE_COMMENTS_NUMBER> as in the next example:

Comments(<IMAGE_COMMENTS_NUMBER>)</a>

And yes, to view the comments you must have javascript enabled. Most of the security software disables that.

Good luck!

:)

Thanks Photography! Number of comments works now. Just can't figure out why the popup don't work in my PC. I check the javascript and things fine. Hope to find a way...

Thanks again.

This is a VERY ELEGANT AND BEAUTIFUL template. I have installed it on my blog.

Could anyone let me know how I can make the ARCHIVE page list thumbnails by pages, not ALL thumbnails on one page?

Thanks a lot!

One idea is to copy and rename about_template.html to contact_template.html and replace the about text with the contact fields code. After, the url will be yourblog.org/index.php?x=contact

Other ide is to just insert contact code into about_template.html, so the users can contact you via index.php?x=about page.

Hi, another idea is to use this (http://www.pixelpost.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7847) modification.

By the way, does anybody know how to implement this (http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/addons/contact-form/) into the modifcation above??

I need a spam protection for my contact form.

Not to great at web design/coding. I modified the template the best I know how, just wondering if anybody can help me figure out a couple of problems I am still having.

1. Is there a way to make the transparent arrow boxes go away? I like the arrow navigations but I am finding some people are distracted by the big see through box, can I just make it completely see through? (besides the arrows)

and...

2. In my "comments" pop-up, the date stamp keeps coming up wrong. I can't figure out why. The right time/date shows up in the administration sites' "images" section but is incorrect for the comments section on my blog. Any thoughts?

-Thanks guys!

realy like this template, but - how can I change how many thumbnails there will be in a row in archive? It's always 6.
i want 4 but it still 6. If i change template i works, but not when i use simplicouse.
Can i do a "hack" somewhere?

You need to change the width of the container it's in through the css file. Hope that helps.

Do you have an ETA on the next version of Simplicious? The "demo" site listed in the template listings here on pixelpost goes to the new version, not the version you can download. I installed it on my site only to find out that what I installed was the old version. Very disappointing. Please let me know if you plan to release the new version soon.

Thanks,
Mike
