View Full Version : Moving to E2... eHost.net jumped ship

So if you go to ehost.net you will see an extremely unprofessional letter on the front page. They said that they are no longer hosting and that existing members will have their accounts hosted until they expire after the billing cycle. I did not receive any notification. The only way I found out was because I went to the site to see why my hosting was so slow. About a year ago my site was hacked (I think?) and eHost changed my password without telling me. They even yelled at me for emailing them too much. What a load of crap... I hate them so much.

Anyway, I'm switching to E2. The only problem is that I do not know how to back up my pixelpost blog and transfer it to E2. I see no backup feature in pixelpost. The eHost page tells me to use cpanel to make a backup, but when I go to my cpanel page, it says "Unactivated License File." This is ridiculous...

I do have ftp access via third party clients, but I don't see how I will be able to transfer the blog over easily.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Peter

Contact Eleven2 and see if they can move your blog over for you. If your old host was a Cpanel host, they *should* be able to do it. Let E2 know that "time is of the essence" so that it gets taken care of quickly.

Per the E2 Knowledgebase (http://www.eleven2.com/kb/pre-sales/will_you_transfer_my_current_site_over_to_eleven2/):

Will You Transfer My Current Site Over To eleven2?

Eleven2 proudly supports cPanel on all packages. cPanel has made it easy for us to transfer data from other hosts to us. So, if you have cPanel with your current host, rest assured that we can and will transfer your data over to us for free! If you don't have cPanel, unfortunately, you will need to migrate to eleven2 on your own.

If the cpanel thing doesn't work anymore, you still can download your whole Pixelpost installation via FTP from Server to your Computer. Make sure that you download ALL files and folders of the Pixelpost package!

You have to backup your database too, see here how it is done:
http://www.pixelpost.org/docs/GettingStarted/Upgrade

Create a database in E2 account (or get the access data of an existing one). Replace the access data of your backuped includes/pixelpost.php file with the new access data. Don't change the table prefix!

Now you can upload the whole file backup to E2 using FTP. Don't forget to upload the changed pixelpost.php!
Last step: go into the mysqladmin or phpmyadmin of your E2 database and import the sql file from the old host. If you run into troubles doing that, I am sure the people at E2 can help you with that.

After doing so, you should be able to reach your photoblog again and keep on blogging
