Are the image tags used by search engines. I put in a random tag of letter, like difsajals, and no results came up in the search engine.
Is that what image tags are for when uploading pictures?
Thanks,
Jonathan
I don't know if the tags are used by search engines. I use tags that are also in the text of the image description or in the tilte of the photo (= for the search engines).
surely I don't use the tag "tree" if the word "tree" isn't in the text or the title of the image.
what means the word "difsajals"?

I just put those random letters as an experiment to see if google picks up the image tags.
It did not, so I am not sure what the purpose of the tags are.
to test your question, I have put these string in G search engine (I replace the real word of the tag with mytagword)
photoblog mytagword
and I become 2 results:
1. my top level domain name (in the top level domain name page I have the list of tags and in the description I see a line text with the tags of my page and in bold mytagword)
2. the tag page as
domain/index.php?x=browse&tag=mytagword
the answear is: yes! the tag are also for the search engine

The image tags I used are "Boston Building Fan Harbor ocean Pier rowes rtfderessytr Water wharf"
I used rtfderessytr, just so it would stand out if I searched it and it does not show up.
If you look at the meta tags in the source code of the following page you do not see those tags listed.
You only see description tags and keyword tags(not the ones I listed above.)

Any help appreciated,
Jonathan
I am using: <TAG_LINKS_AS_LIST> in the image_template.html, so the tags are listed on the page. I don't see the tags on your page

@jonathan, where in your template/site are the tags displayed? Google won't see them unless they are on pages that they index. In order for them to index the page, they either need to be linked somewhere within your site, or you need to submit a sitemap showing the pages where the tags are displayed.

guiz and dakwegmo,
Do they just need to be in the template code or actually words on the page.
If just in the code do I use <TAG_LINKS_AS_LIST> .
I'm a beginner at this.
Also, do I have to keep updating my xml sitemap, so the pages are indexed.
dakwegmo, you mentioned it may be possible by linking each page to somewhere else in the site. How do you do this?
Thanks for your patience and help.

<TAG_LINKS_AS_LIST> displays the tag cloud for your website. As long as you place this tag between the body tags in your template, then it will show up as content on your page and Google will index it.
There's a Google Sitemap addon available in this thread: http://www.pixelpost.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3064
It dynamically generates the sitemap, so you don't have to manually change it. This addon http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/addons/admin-google-sitemap-ping-service/ automatically pings google anytime your sitemap is updated.
