I'm fairly content with my current simple template, BUT as I've recently taken to using a Holga I've noticed that many of my shots would look so much better is the background color were black rather than white. I'm looking for a way to have an option within the admin so that i can choose one of two styles to attribute to an image.
Can anyone help with this? Think it would make a popular add-on.

wouldn't it be better to allow your visitors to choose the style for themselves?
have a look at www.jlspurling.com if you don't know what i mean.
and go to http://www.alistapart.com/articles/alternate/ for a really simple way of achieving this yourself!

Can't seem to log in today for some reason. I understand your point about just using a style switcher and letting people decide but that's not really the direction I'm going for. They way I look at if you were going to sell a print you'd mat and frame it in a way that you thought best presented the image. i think it's all part of the process. I wouldn't object to people being able to switch the style to something other than what I've presented but I would like control over how it's initially seen.
To do this some work would need to be done in on the admin side of things and that's where I'd need some assistance.

Anyone out there who might be willing/interested in working on this?

its not really a pixelpost function, its something for the template to offer, the coding and style changes with the css are all on the front end of the blog...
although setting up so one can be added to swap between different skins is a tag you could request in the feedback section for the next main pixelpost version....it might be possible, although and efficient form of displayng the style switcher would not be up to the user, so its probably best one get help to work out the css/xhtml portion of the style sheet change...

Got no problem creating the variant stylesheets and since the ides isn't for the visitor to "choose" the display I'd need some way to assign a specific style sheet to each image. To do this there'd have to be an admin hack of some kind I'm sure.

maybe a style switcher could be use for a language switcher?
(just wondering :) )
it could be a very interesting feature, for 1.5 ;)

It seems like you could do it with a category. An addon could look for the a special category; if it finds it, it modifies a custom tag that links to an additional stylesheet with the proper color scheme. You'd have a somewhat meaningless category, but it might work.

I suppose something like that could work. You'd need to apply the addon that allows for a single image to be assigned to more than one category and find a way to "hide" the style category from the browse page ideally. So anyone up to giving it a shot???

bump
bumpI think most of the developers are kinda tired out from the push to get 1.4 and then 1.4.1 ready. Once we have all recovered and spent some time with our cameras and spouses for a change, I expect one of us might take a look at this.
