Let's say I've been running PixelPost 1.4.2 for a couple years in a directory called ../old/

I want to upgrade but I want to install and play around with the new PP version, the CSS, the HTML, etc. before I switch my visitors over from ../old/

Can I install the new PP version in ../new/ and point it at the old database so it will retain all my old data, photos, comments etc.?

If you point it at the old database it will upgrade the database and make the 1.4.2 version unusable.

To do what you want you would have to make a copy of the current database and use the copy for testing.

Thanks for the answer, dwilkinsjr+.

I've never made a copy of a database on my server, that's beyond my experience level at this point. I'll ask a friend or two if they can help. But if you have any tips, please let me know.

I don't suppose this function is already built into Pixelpost already? ; )

Dennis,

Your site says this add-on is for Pixelpost version 1.7+.

Can I use it with my current install of 1.4.2?

Also, do I put it in /addons/ or in /admin/ ?

thanks for helping.
