Perennial spam problem

Can anyone help me to understand how do I tackle spam?
I am flooded with span on my website.

Are you using Aksimet or Defensio?

I use Akismet. I guess that comes as a default option. Do not know really how does it work. I report spam to Akismet but I getting spam from the same IP.

You can create a ban list of ip address and add them to a .htaccess file. Between Akismet and some terms I put in to either move the post to the blacklist or the moderation que, I don't get too much spam. It rarely makes it through.
