As promised I've prepared a dfGallery addon.

Download:

http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/addons/dfgallery/

dfGallery is a kick ass Flash slideshow viewer by DezinerFolio. I modified the backend to work with the MediaRSS addon for Pixelpost and made a wrapper to make it work as an addon. Hope you like it.

Demo:

http://www.i-marco.nl/photoblog/?x=slideshow

If you have any problems, post them here.

Enjoy!

Well well, Thanks to you to brought us this addon, but…

In fact, it doesn't work, the page's load, but after that, it's stuck with the "loading…"
Do you have an explanation for me ?
here is the link ;
http://maphoto.lautre.net/pixelpost/index.php?x=slideshow

TheMarco

Yes I see the problem. Look here:

http://maphoto.lautre.net/pixelpost/addons/_dfgallery/df/gallery.php?type=mediarss&url=http://maphoto.lautre.net/pixelpost/addons/mediarss.php&max=9999

You're running PHP in safe mode which is why you can't set your own time limit.

Try removing line 16 from gallery.php which you'll find in the folder df/ in your _dfgallery addon directory.

It should run fine without this line anyway.

pinkasimov

Yes ! All work fine, but I need to put a "True" value too on the <pause_slideshow> on gallery.xml.
And now a big thank you !
For the addon and for the reactivity !

Tarlak, your MediaRSS feed isn't working.

http://photos.tarlak.net/addons/mediarss.php&max=100

Is the plugin enabled?

Also, increase the max=100 if you want all your pics to show up.

Ho sorry, i made it on the addon directory but i think a 'rm' command line made me delete it sorry.

I have to think before i speak the next time. sorry.

Juste one think it may be a good idea to preconise the php5_curl library to be enable, because for my configuration by default it wasn't enable.

Thanks for this addon :)

Would love to see the possibility to view only some categories and not all photos. Something like galleries, on one page I can choose galleries.

TheMarco
07-13-2008, 12:00 AM
For that to work you'd need multiple MediaRSS feeds each serving a certain subset of your images. The 'albums' you can browse within the Flash viewers are different RSS feeds.

How must I do that to have more RSS Feeds ?

TheMarco

Ok that would be the problem then. The dfGallery backend code only runs on PHP5. Sorry :(

jaywilliams
07-15-2008, 04:31 AM
To tell you the truth, GoDaddy really should upgrade to PHP 5, as a lot of new scripts only run on that version. Especially since the first version of PHP 5 came out way back in 2004.

Perhaps you can send them a request... and if enough GoDaddy customers request it, they'll have to upgrade. :D

TheMarco
07-15-2008, 11:53 AM
Exactly. Here's another reason why, from the PHP.net site:

The PHP development team hereby announces that support for PHP 4 will continue until the end of this year only. After 2007-12-31 there will be no more releases of PHP 4.4. We will continue to make critical security fixes available on a case-by-case basis until 2008-08-08. Please use the rest of this year to make your application suitable to run on PHP 5.

PHP4 is completely DEAD after 2008-08-08. It's pretty shocking that providers are still running this.

Sorry, i didn't read entirely your question. My site is on godaddy and it's written that the version of PHP is : PHP 4.x

GoDaddy offers php5. You need to make the switch.

Thank you all. I just did the switch to PHP5. They will do it in the next 24 hours.

Having troubles as well on http://www.ilger.nl/photo/index.php?x=slides. It does not show any pictures :)

I'm found an error on http://www.ilger.nl/photo/addons/_dfgallery/df/gallery.php?type=mediarss&url=http://www.ilger.nl/photo/addons/mediarss.php&max=100

it seems that the mediarss is not creating an xml rss file?

Anyone a suggestion on what might be the problem?

I'v managed to solve some previous problems following the tips in this thread but now i'm pretty stuck :)

TheMarco
07-16-2008, 10:08 AM
You don't have CURL support in your PHP.

Mental note: I really need to write more detailed instructions / requirements.

evanvooren
07-16-2008, 03:17 PM
Darn...suppose there is no other way to change this other than having curl support on the server.

TheMarco
07-16-2008, 04:58 PM
There is. Uploaded a new version that works with both curl and DOMDocument->load() (which doesn't run on my host).

http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/addons/dfgallery/

Let me know if this helps.

evanvooren
07-16-2008, 06:05 PM
Seems to have the right effect on the error which is now gone and it is producing it's XML now...

So that is good news! Thanks for the quick update on the curl vs. DOMDocument->load()

pedroserano

I've carefully read through the above problems and solutions, trying each one separately and together. Unfortunately, none seem to resolve this issue:

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_OBJECT_OPERATOR, expecting ',' or ';' in /home/content/p/e/d/pedroserano/html/portfolio/addons/_dfgallery/df/gallery.php on line 40

Any idea what this means?

Thank you :)

Hi Marco,

Have you tried to load flickr as an album (dfgallery functionality) in your version as well already?

TheMarco
07-17-2008, 08:02 AM
@pedroserano I have absolutely no clue. All I can think of is that you may be running some really old PHP version. (below PHP5)

@evanvooren No I haven't. Why?

evanvooren
07-17-2008, 02:08 PM
I was testing how easy it was to use other album types supported by dfgallery like flickr and it didn't. So before I start investigating how to I was wondering whether you've tried this already and maybe had it working as well.

pedroserano
07-18-2008, 12:01 AM
Marco,

you were absolutely right, the server is running both php4 and php5 perhaps for backwards compatibility, but not my choice.

The host says all scripts that you want parsed as php5 need .php5 on the end.

All the scripts run flawlessly by themselves as I've tested, but it seems have lost their links to each other.

Are there references to php files in gallery.swf (I believe I've covered all references in _dfgallery/df/gallery.php and the other editable files.

Thanks!!!

TheMarco
07-18-2008, 07:10 AM
Wow that's an utter ridiculous way of doing things. This pretty much prevents any software to run as PHP5. I'd strongly urge your host to REVERSE this, making .php run php5 and .php4 run php4 for those who still haven't been able to upgrade their software after over 3 years.

You may still be able to change this for your home directory only with a .htaccess file pointing .php files to the right destination. You could try to ask them for that!

wengeol2
07-19-2008, 07:05 PM
Marco,

I really like your theme and the dfGallery slideshow is a very nice add-on. Unfortunately my the hosting company is setup with an old Linux distribution (SuSE 10.0!) and there is currently no option to upgrade to PHP5.

So I've written a new PHP4 compliant version of the media-stripper, which is required to transform the MediaRSS XML File to a new XML file for dfGallery. I am still running the last couple of tests and tidying up the code..

There is a limitation however: it will only work with MediaRSS feeds. So no Flickr, Picasa Fotki or Photobucket.

I will post the PHP4 files, if someone is interested in them.

I have some question to put about dfgallery:

- is it possible to change the data format, that shows on the top left ?
- when we click in the bottom left button (gallery) it normal to show only one image inside the box ?
- inside gallery can I use accents for example, instead of "previous photo" use "próxima" ?

thanks

I believe the PHP5 version from Marco is also not available with the flickr, picasa or photobucket theme features from dfgallery. Or am I missing something?

evanvooren,

MediaRSS is not available in standard dfGallery. TheMarco has added this functionality.

You can add additional albums (Flickr, Picasa, Forki and Photobucket) by adding them into the gallery.xml file. Instructions can be found here: http://www.dezinerfolio.com/dfgallery/manual/

Hi. If I have some categories, I must to add all categories in gallery.xml manual? If yes, how I can?

lfp
07-25-2008, 12:48 PM
In my case I put them manually, Just like this:
<albums>
<album title="All Photos" description="Pixelpost Album" type="mediarss" url="http://www.i-marco.nl/photoblog/addons/mediarss.php"/>
<album title="Abstract" description="Pixelpost Album" type="mediarss" url="http://www.i-marco.nl/photoblog/addons/mediarss.php?category=9"/>
.
repeat the upper line for each category
.
</albums>

You can find out the number for each category in your browse page.
Jut put the mouse over the category and see the number on the foot of your browser.

In order to use dfGallery on a new page you must create another html file inside your template directory (where image_template.html, browse_template.html, about_template.html are placed) and put the code for dfGallery inside. The best way to do this is to create a copy of image_template.html, rename it for example to slideshow_template.html, delete the html code for showing images and thumbnails from the new html file and put the <DFGALLERY...> instead. After, you'll have yourblog.com/index.php?x=slideshow as the slideshow for your page.

dfGallery possible fix:

I've replied to this thread because I've seen some people complaining about dfgallery not working on their websites and since I've had the same problem, I thought posting a possible solution might help.

This is what I've done in order to make the slideshow work:

- installed dfgallery following the steps mentioned in the documentation;
- installed this addon (http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/modifications/media-rss-for-piclens-and-others/) (Media RSS for PicLens with all blogged photos);
- opened dfgallery's gallery.xml and in the <albums> section I've added this:
<album title="Pixelpost" description="Pixelpost Album" type="mediarss" url="http://www.website.com/index.php?x=rss"></album>
- entered pixelpost admin and under options-rss/atom feed settings I've selected "Show full size pictures";

That's it! I hope it'll work for you as well.

All the best! :)

PS. Make sure you replace website.com/index.php?x=rss with the url of your website.

Hi everyone!

I've been sweating a few hours already trying to nstall the dfGallery, read all the messages here, but still can't find where I'm wrong.

I have the loading stuck...

I'm new to PixelPost, so it's very possible I made a very obvious mistake!

Here is my slideshow: http://lepetitchinois.net/portfolio/index.php?x=slideshow

I have php5, curl should be enabled.
The addons are enabled also.

It's a bummer that the maker of dfGallery doesn’t come with a solution to this problem.
The dfGallery possible fix earlier placed in this post does not work for me.

I emailed This Mister Marco a couple of weeks ago, but until now, no reaction at all. I bought a licence for dark matter pro, so I think a little support is in his place I think. But clearly he has a different idea on support for his sold products.

Jack,

http://www.jackuges.com/index.php?x=slideshow

ps. His support text on his site:

If you need help with Dark Matter you can email me. However you're probably going to get help faster if you try the Pixelpost forum. I read this forum daily. If you ask your question there you may get an answer from a fellow user before I even see it and other users may benefit from your question and the answer.
If you think you've found a bug in Dark Matter Pro, please make sure you:

 Can properly reproduce the bug
 Provide a detailed description of the problem
 Provide information about the browser and operating system you are using

I cannot respond with proper action to incomplete or vague bug reports.

dear jacku

yes i have changed images and thumbnail path in gallery.xml which should be in root of your pixelpost and it had resolved the issue.

just change that value to your root relative path and it will resolve the problem..

e.g.

if your pixelpost is
www.yourdomain.tld/pixelpost/gallery.xml

then your path should be

<thumbnail_dir>./thumbnails/</thumbnail_dir>
<image_dir>./images/</image_dir>

Having what I consider a significant issue with this addon...

Basically, I have added multiple albums to the gallery.xml file as I've read elsewhere on the forum to do..

The problems which all happen with NO CHANGES what so ever to the site, ie..no new image uploading, categories, admin changes...this just happens randomly with nothing having been changed....

1: When switching to grid view to select a different album, it sometimes only shows 8 of the 9 total albums listed in gallery.xml.

This is completely random. Reloading the page sometimes works, sometimes not to get all to show.

2: My gallery.xml contains the albums in the order in which I want them displayed. It would seem obvious that this is the way it should work but it does not. It random decides which galleries show. For example, with problem 1, sometimes it decides to leave off Product Shots and others it decides to leave off Artistic...etc. This is during refreshes with no other changes being made to pixelpost, or new images uploaded, or anything changing whatsoever.

In other words, it does not display them as listed in the gallery.xml, ever. And it never seems to display in the same order, it always changes with a cache clearing and refresh of the page.

3: As related to number 1 and 2, I want to display A SPECIFIC album first, not randomly, but it ignores the order of the gallery.xml so it never starts on the same gallery.

I am using this addon more or less as a portfolio slideshow. Or at least I would like to. The only solution I see at the moment is to delete all but one album and add only X number of photos from each category that album category. I would much rather be able to have only one area for a category/collection view on my site, and they display as a slideshow instead of thumbnails as in the Collections/browse archives viewing style.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Here is the code snippet from my gallery.xml...

great work
thanks for all your effort

if a new version comes, is adding categories going to be a manual edit too?
also, version 2.004 is out now, any chance of getting it implemented?

thanks again

I had try for weeks to make df Gallery work, I read every single note about it and tried every suggestion. Im about to give up. Im using godaddy to host my site, could that be it?

I also tried the flash slideshow but just realized that its for pixelpost 1.6, can and should I install the older version of pixelpost?

Im not an expert on this, just a photographer trying to do a slide show. Any comments or suggestions are very well appreciated.

Thank you!

So here I am almost 2 months after my last post. Still can't figure it out. Im following instructions which are half way explained and that contradict themself.

On the DF gallery read me document it says "The height attribute is required, the width value is optional"
once you installed the plugin, on the admin it says "Use <DFGALLERY width="xxx" height="xxx"> (height is optional) anywhere on a new Pixelpost page to display the slideshow viewer."

So is it optional or not.
Im not very familiar with anything else but very basic HTML. It does not specify where exactly to ad the with and height command, just says anywhere on a NEW pixelpost page.
What does that mean? do i have to create a new document?
Pleaseee help, this has been a very frustrating experience for me.
Im also using the Delicious template which seems very unstable as sometimes I see my thumbnails, sometimes not, etc. Anybody that has experience with the mix of DF and Delicious would be very appreciated if you can comment. Thank you.

HI!

This addon is working great for me. I even achive to incorporate it in my pixelpost template colors! There is 3 modifications i would like to do to it but i have no idea how to modify the files.

1. I would like the mp3 file to loop continuously (non stop music)
2. I would lik the speaker to be ON by default (and turned off by the visitor if he wished so)
3. I would like to see 3 rows instead of 2 so the visitors don't have to switch page every 6 categories.

Any help would be appreciated.

You can take a look at this adress:

Thanks for your help!

Hello

I've still problem with dfgallery addon. I need help, couse i've no idea what's wrong.

1. I downloaded two addons: MEDIA RSS and DFgallery (whole directory) and put them in Addon directory. Then actived them.

2. I placed the file gallery.xml in the ROOT of my pixelpost installation. (earlier change line to: <album title="Pixelpost" description="Pixelpost Album" type="mediarss"
url="http://www.kroplaswiatla.com/addons/mediarss.php"></album>

3. I place this line: <li><a href="index.php?x=slideshow">Slideshow</a></li> in <ul id="menu"> section (in about_template page)

Effect is:

First screen shot.
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/4078/29885771.jpg

I see the page with SLIDESHOW link. When i clik it i see new screen with LOADING text

(screenshot 2).
http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/6744/47888895.jpg

And after two, maybe free second everything frees. No photos, no miniatures. Just black

screen.

I didn't place <DFGALLERY width="xxx" height="yyy"> line in any template becouse i don't want to another small window when i see miniature (heh, when i put this line is the same effect like above).

Please help ! I don't know where is error.
