After a lot of long days and nights of hard work it's finally there. Dark Matter Pro 1.0.0 is available to the public.
I have taken extreme care to make this release as smooth as humanly possible, including continuous regression testing and a handful of private beta testers. I therefor think it's a pretty damn solid release.
However, as with every first release there can always be minor issues that slipped through. Therefore Dark Matter Pro is available at a 20% off discount price in the first month.
I have also decided to donate 10% of the Dark Matter Pro sales to the Pixelpost team in support of their excellent software.
I have put up a micro site where you'll find everything there is to know about Dark Matter Pro:

Now this is what i call a template that rocks the pixelpost planet..!!
TheMarco,
I have two questions:
- Can I upgrade easly from the free version to pro ?
- If buy the pro version, the future upgrades are free ?
Thanks

It depens on what you call 'easy'. If you have made tons of customizations to the Free version then you'll need to do them again in Pro. If you haven't then it's just a matter of deleting the free version and installing the pro version.
On Dark Matter Pro you get indeed free 1.x upgrades. If there will ever be a 2.0 version it will probably be because Pixelpost 2.0 is here which I think will be a while. If I have to do a 2.0 version (I'll ONLY do this if I need to do MASSIVE amounts of work, in all other cases it will be an 1.x update. I'm not in it to rip anyone off!) there will be a substantial discount for existing Dark Matter Pro users.

I'm currently playing with the idea of creating a companion WordPress template with some smartass functionality to tap into the pixelpost content. This will allow people to run a proper weblog and have a proper frontpage while maintaining a solid consistent look and feel.
Check this sketch (http://www.flickr.com/photos/i-marco/2676489803/).
If I manage to pull this off it will be offered as an extra to go with Dark Matter Pro for a slighly higher price.
However, If I do get around creating this, people who have already purchased a DMP license at the day this thing gets released will receive it for FREE as a thanks for being supportive at an early stage.
What do you guys think about this idea? Would it be useful?

Yes ! In that case, I will purchase the Pro version ;-))
well i buy also a pro version licence.
and i have a question, is normal the ajax rating takes some many time to run, i'm using firefox 2.0.0.15.
i also thing that this feature could not be very obvious for a user to use, is it possible to add a message on mouse over ?
thanks

The AJAX ratings are a 3rd party addon. I have added a customised version merely as a convenience but I won't go as far as actually adding features to them. I suppose that's up to the creators of the individual addons.
inside image info can i rename the description to descrição ?
i try like this but don't work "descri¸ão", any ideas ?
thanks

UTF-8 was the solution. Thank you. TheMarco.

Hi to all,
I've done the same thing an the result with the dfgallery addon is the same than you Robbo.
I've also try to use the "SoloIt" addon to switch out the light, but with no result…
Too bad :-\
Any idea someone ??
Robbo

I have Solo-it working fine in my Image_Template.html I have the following tags for the addon
on line 101 by me under the <DM_Lightswitch> tag this
<div id="titlebar"><IMAGE_TITLE> <SOLO_IT_CLICK></div>
then above the body tag this tag <SOLO_IT>
apart from that the two files in to the includes folder from pixel post and the soloIt.php to addons, then activate addon refresh it should then be there.

Thank you Marco for the amazing template! I just made the switch to Pro and have figured out most of the things to set it up. Having no knowledge of HTML etc, (the reason I purchased a ready-made template), I figured out with some trial and error here and there as I went along. Techie people will probably have an easier time. My problems are:
1. The PERSONAL LOGO I uploaded through the dark matter settings page doesn't show up in my site. I tried a 28x28 pixel PNG image, then JPG images, and it still doesn't show. Do I need to change the name to logo.png? What do you suggest I do?
2. I have the same problem with the DFGALLERY Robbo and pinkasimov are having. It's not showing up. I see the html comment " ...if you don't see numbers but tags looking like DM_SOMETHING this means the add-on is not enabled!!!" and I'm seeing tags even though the addon is enabled. In the README instructions, I don't know where exactly to "use(?) the tag <DFGALLERY width="xxx" height="yyy" in the Pixelpost page(?) where you want the viewer to appear". Could you please point me to the right page and line. What exactly are the changes I can make to the gallery.xml file? and the slideshow_template file? How can I tell if the mediarss addon is working properly with dfgallery? The footer bar gets displaced to the right.
Please bear with my ignorance. You have a beautiful template. I am enjoying my photos through this template. Respectfully, the instructions don't come across easily to a code illiterate like me.
Please see the site at www.deepcut.com.ph .
Thank you very much.
Ian
Update: Issues SOLVED. Fixed permission in the logo. RSS now works fine. Slideshow is now run by another third party program. The site is now at www.deepcut.com.ph (http://deepcut.com.ph/)

Hi Ian,
It looks like for some reason the logo got weird permissions on your server. It got there but you get a 403 / Access Forbidden when you try to access it. You should probably ask your hosting provider why this is happening. I have never seen it!
For the gallery plugin: Your MediaRSS isn't working. It's not even there:
http://www.ianfrancisco.com.ph/addons/mediarss.php&max=9999
This is why the gallery doesn't work :)
Cheers,

Hi. It has always been there Marco. Isn't this it? http://www.ianfrancisco.com.ph/addons/mediarss.php . I don't understand. The Piclens is also working fine. MediaRSS has always been ON in my Pixelpost Addons page since darkmatter installation.

Regarding the logo, I will consult my host provider. Thanks but I'm still looking forward to see the slideshow work.
P.S. I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium, Firefox v3, and my host uses PHP v5.2

I just purchased a license for Dark Matter pro. Thanks for the hard work in this wonderful template.
I was hoping someone could help me. I would like to use my own logo vs the pixelpost default site tittle. I have created a logo in photoshop and would like it to sit on the right side of the nav bar with part of it hanging down over the info bar aka the line that seperates the nav bar form the info tab. Is this possible? if so can someone explain how the heck to do it. Been trying for a couple hours now and feel like I am getting no where fast. I dont want my logo to be too small either,

When I click on "Collection" it takes me to the first page of thumbnails--is there a way to make it go to the last page, or to reverse the sort order (so that the first page has the most recent photos)?
For example, the "Collection" link takes me to "index.php?x=browse&pagenum=1"--is there a way to do something like "pagenum=_last"?
I have no reservations about editing PHP, but I would like to know where to look first.
Thanks!
PS I love the template, I have the pro version set up here: http://photoblog.chezmojo.com
There are quite a few .CSS files and I'm a little confused. I would like to add a white border in small width around the main photo.
Which .CSS file is it in to change and where abouts?

I'm having a similar problem with dfgallery as I've read here.
mediarss is working OK. The slideshow opens with 'loading'. Music works, directories all check out, just no pictures. Piclens even works with the site.
Using PP1.7.1 with DarkMatter Pro.
I did notice that in a regular rss/atom feed, thumbnails, descriptions and links show up, but when using mediarss.php, only the post title shows and is a link. I've looked at other's mediarss pages and they all look like this, so it may be correct.
Just can't figure out what I did wrong.
mediarss: http://paulison.com/photoblog/addons/mediarss.php
site home: http://paulison.com/photoblog/
Slideshow page: http://paulison.com/photoblog/index.php?x=slideshow
Any help would be great!

think Marco mentioned that CURL needs to be supported for it to work, I checked with my webhost and I can first use CURL when I have my own Server, so for the time being I will do without the slideshow.

Thanks robbo. I didn't realize cURL was needed. I guess I'll do without the slide show, too. Piclens/CoolIris works really well anyway. I'll just stick with that. -Mike

Hey... before I go, this might be an easy question for someone...
After I upgraded to Darkmatter Pro from regular Darkmatter, my comments cut off after an ampersand (&). Any way I can fix this?
I recently did a black and white post and everyone's comments abruptly ended when they tried to say B&W. Again, I have other posts originally done and commented in with the Darkmatter template (before Pro) and they have the ampersand (&) character.

I've bought your Dark Matter Pro 1.0.0 template for Pixelpost.
But there is some problem.
I setted up dfgallery and then
I changed the width of my homepage over 800 or under 800 in Dark Matter panel.
In this case footer position was wrong on the dfgallery page.
Footer worked properlly only on the with of 800 pixel exactly on the dfgallery page
Can you fix this issue?

I'll try to look into this over the weekend. I think there's an easy fix but my only problem is that I currently do not have any machine running Windows / IE so I can't make sure the fix is working at this moment.

Hi Marco, everyone,
I have been using the free version of DM for a few months now, but I have only now had a chance to look under the hood and work out why it is performing so poorly. I have over 700 photos on my blog and the javascript "Photo Stream" - which looks really cool - just isn't coping. It will sit there for 5 minutes or more, depending on my connection, grabbing hundreds of image icons, but not displaying them, and crucially, not displaying the main posted photo. I don't think anybody has the patience hang around, as my traffic has totally dropped off since installing it.
I need to limit the scope of the images it looks up (I think the last 30 or so would be plenty) or move to another template because, frustratingly, the photo stream is not implemented as a DIV in the normal html template and instead is buried away with all the other page behaviours so I can't just disable it.
Any suggestions?

Now that's what I call impressive support! Unfortunately there may be a bug in this patch as it now doesn't display anything (tested on FF & Google, on both Vista & XP) - but assuming you can solve that you will have 1 very happy new paid up user.
I have restored the previous version for now, but I can put the buggy version live at some pre-arranged time if that helps.

My bad. I updated the file (download again).
I think I'll update Dark Matter Pro soon to make the preloading optional so that those who have trouble with it can disable it. For now just use this file!

Hello,
I'm pretty new to PixelPost and to Dark Matter Pro, but I'm very much impressed with the software and the template system. I seem to have solved most of my problems, but one has recently cropped up literally over night.
This problem ONLY seems to be an issue under Internet Explorer 7.0 (which is the only version of IE that I have access to and can test with). Firefox is not affected by this. I have also noticed that this problem does not seem to be happening with other sites using Dark Matter Pro, so I'm positive that the problem is something on MY site specifically.
The problem is that when I load my site under Internet Explorer 7, the Image Info tab is dropped, showing all of the Image Info stuff. If I click the Image Info tab or the little button just above it to close the Image Info screen, the screen will briefly flash closed and then do the smooth open thing that it does when it's normally closed up. When I go to close the Image Info screen, the screen will slide closed, but then flash back to the open state.
I've searched through this thread to see if anyone else is having this issue, but I have seen nothing on it. Again, this issue only pops up under Internet Explorer. Firefox is not affected, and it only appears to happen on my site.
I have the following:
PHP 5.2.8
libCurl 7.10.3 (I'm assuming this means that libCurl is available to me)
I'm not sure if this will help, but I should say it anyway. In an effort to help me troubleshoot why my dfGallery slideshow wasn't working, I installed the DOMDocument enabled version of the add-on. I do not know if this would have any affect on the Image Info screen.
If anyone can help out, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Okay, I did manage to fix my problem. I'm not sure what the cause of the problem was, ultimately. My fix was to simply re-upload the darkmatter template folder to my web site. Viola! Problem went away. However, since I don't know what caused this to begin with, there's always the possibility that this could crop up again. So if anyone has any suggestions for what I can check on (I do have a copy of the corrupt code in a back form so I could look it over) then I'd appreciate it.
